as a bartender at a large nightclub I find it is good to have a couple shots in the course of the night...to deal with the drunks. Having a couple shots and getting drunk are two very different things though. Tending bar while drinking is illegal, so as the manager I think you should consider your risk factor overall. Would you rather have a good employee behing the bar getting drunk or lose your job because the bar was shut down. Fines and penalties for drinking while working at a bar/nightclub ( no matter what your job title is ) are pretty bad. I was always taught one very good piece of advice while working in bars/nightclubs: "Christmas is christmas and business is business." If an employee is bad for your overall business, take the necessary steps to either correct the problem or get rid of the employee. I hope this helps.

well if she walked into any other job drunk, she'd be fired on the spot, but in the bar world good help is hard to find, give her a warning(written) have her sign it, so she'll know it happens again, she's gone, and definetly call in the next girl, her being drunk on the job is a insurance risk!

Upon listening to this, Jesus gave the guy a grin as in basic terms Jesus can, and ordered up 2 smug Bastard Ales. < the humorous tale here, for any who are not widespread, is found on the label--and internet site--of smug Bastard Ale, wherein those issues isn't for people who think of they like yellow fizzy beer or, "lagers".

Look at it this way. If she's already drunk, she wont be hitting any of your alcohol. :)
Perhaps it's easier for her to listen to peoples problems when she has 'put down a few'. Plus, I bet she makes them drinks nice and good, I'm sure the customers appreciate THAT.

Call in the next girl, unless she is an alcoholic, then throw in the towel, and fire her.
