....for protection? Once I went to school (uni) and some guy parked behind my car and stared at me. So I was concerned and then I threw a bat in the backseat in case he showed up again. It's still in the backseat. Should I leave it there, get pepper spray or what? Is it some kind of offense to have the bat back there "just in case?" I'm a law-abiding citizen but I go to school at night and feel safer knowing I have it. I don't have a cell phone.

The fact that you ask this question scares me about the state of our society. Yes, it is perfectly acceptable for you to have a baseball bat in your car. Baseball bats are not illegal in anyway. I would also get some pepper spray, since a large man will not be entirely overpowered by a bat unless you have enough force in that swing. A pay-as-you-go cell phone for emergencies might not be a bad investment on your part either.

No, it's just a baseball bat until you represent it in a fashion that is threatening or use it in an assaultive manner. THEN it becomes a weapon. The same applies to any of the tools mentioned.

A bat is only good as a self defense weapon if it's at the ready and you have the room to use it, and unless you are good, you'll get one swing, unless you knock whoever for a good stand up triple, there won't be a second swing. OCS is a little better, but it is no good if it's not in your hand when it's needed. The best self defense you have sits on top of your shoulders. Keep "situational awareness", don't put yourself into situations where you are at risk if possible, and have a plan for what you will do if trouble finds you.
You can always call myself or one of my colleagues to assist you.

I have to agree with Slick. When was the last time you practiced beating a person with a bat? Do you know where to hit a person to disable them enough for you to get away? Much better ways to protect yourself. I don't even recommend the store bought key chain mace. It's as good as throwing water on someone. Whatever you do, use common sense. Number one rule is to ensure the suspect doesn't have to get close to you to defend yourself. Scream and run works real good.

well i would get a small can of pepper spray like for your key chain. because most likely you would be attacked before you get to your car. and with your bat you are only going to get one swing and he would grab the bat and use on you. with pepper if someone grabs you you might be able to spray him as you fight . keep the bat handy but in the open. so the police can see it .or you might get charged with a canceled weapons good luck and always watch behind you and always look in your car before you get in.some one could have gotten into the car and waiting till you are in the car to strike . i'm just trying to help you not scare you

Of course you can! End of story. Does not matter why. End of story.

Just don't HIT anyone with it, unless it is in 100% pure self defense. You hit someone with a bat, and that is felony assault, and you can go to prison for a LONG time (like 10 year to LIFE) for hitting someone with a baseball bat.

But remember, boogie man might take that bat out of your hands and use it on you!

Maybe you better think twice about your "choice" of self-defense. Unless you WANT to go to prison!

I'm serious girl. There are better ways for self defense.

Try the "scream and run away" method. That works pretty good. Cry later.

A bat would be fine, though a crowbar or tire iron would make a lot more sense. For one, the tire iron is actually useful if you get a flat tire. The other thing to consider is that a crowbar or tire iron ought to hurt more as they are more dense if not heavier than most baseball bats.

A bat is far more effective than pepper spray. Yes, it is legal to have a bat in your car.

Forget the baseball bat. Get yourself a concealed-carry license. Buy yourself a pistol. Go to the firing range, and learn marksmanship and gun safety. Then carry the pistol with you wherever you go. A violent crime occurs every 23 seconds in the USA. Don't become a statistic.

Its perfectly fine, though in California you probably need a Baseball Bat Permit or some dumb shise. I'd get a better defensive weapon than that though. There aren't a whole lot of women who I'd be afraid of if they were trying to hit me with a bat.

depends what state you are in and what constitutes a weapon......in Texas for example--if you are caught with a pistol and do not have a permit for it, you can be charged with "Unlawful carrying a Weapon"
However, you can legally carry a rifle or shotgun around in your car or pickup and commit NO offense.

*go figure LOL!
