Stratford-Upon-Avon is a lovely place and quite quaint in places. Arundel and Chichester are also lovely towns.
If you really want to get away from it all try the Welsh hills, nothing but sheep and damp hillsides but beautiful!

We stayed here for an anniversary, its close to Bath which is a great place to visit. You need to book the 'tower' room. You basically get three rooms. Your bedroom which also has the lounge and a roaring log fire, joining onto that is the bathroom with a roll top bath, up a small flight of stairs is the second bedroom and the tiny dining area and fridge, where your breakfast will be served, you then go through the patio doors out onto the rooftop deck and the hot spa for 2. For your use only. It was wonderful, old fashioned and a bit dusty but just fantastic, the restaurant food was great and the wine cellar so dusty most of the labels have rotted off, but wow the wine was good!

Depends where you are setting out from. Cumbria offers some very romantic weekend, but no one will feel 'great' after the journey up from London.

I live in London, the places I'd go to for romantic weekends are: York, Bath, Oxford, and any of the smaller towns in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

Now, if you and your partner are interested in wildlife and nature, you might be able to get to Lundy Island for a few days.

A place called Paradise house hotel..a Georgian mansion in Bath with panoramic views from the royal circle across the city to the Abby if you get room 5. It has an amazing bathroom (oh boy!). There are also 4 poster garden rooms if you would rather.
They provide flowers, chocs and champers for a small cost.
The breakfasts are wonderful and included, we had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.......really lovely place and the Restaurants around are fab. The city itself is cultural if thats what you want, but there are fun places in abundance and the walk around the river is tres romantique

My boyfriend and I had a lovely weekend in St Ives, Cornwall. It's 6 hours on the train from London, but SO worth it. We stayed at a charming bed and breakfast (there are many to choose from). Lots of charming streets and restaurants... have fish & chips on the beach, walk along the , visit the Tate Gallery. Just check out some of the pictures of the city!! GORGEOUS!!!

I live a couple of miles from Dunster in Somerset and can safely say it is a really gorgeous, romantic place to stay. Lots to see and do, gentle walks, seaside, wooded valleys, a castle, cobbled streets, steam trains, really old places. If you go stay at The Luttrell Arms (see http://www.luttrellarms.co.uk/main.htm) and visit Dunster Castle (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-events/w-events-find_event.htm?propertyID=304). Of course, managing a hotel I should be saying come and stay here, http://www.marstonlodgehotel.co.uk, we do evening meals and can provide fresh flowers, chilled champagne!!!

Other than that, we really adore St. Ives for romantic holidays. Miles of wide, clean, deserted sandy beaches, windy walks that make hot baths for two so welcoming, excellent seafood and the feeling that you're at the end of the world (or at least the country). Stay at The Sloop, the pub on the harbour (but be selective about their rooms and insist on seeing them first) or Pedn Olva, which is over the sea and has a swanky bar. While you're there visit the fish market at East Looe and go to Land's End just so you can get your photo taken next to the sign-post that says however many miles it is to John O'Groats.

Equally, Bath is nice but be prepared to shop! The cathedral is beautiful, there's good street markets and hiring a rowing boat on the river is romantic. Bath is probably an expensive option though. While you're there visit the newly opened Bath Spa and enjoy the reviving warm waters and a super-pampering massage.

Ideally, you could take a week out, travel down the M4 from London to Bath (2.5 hours at most) and spend a couple of days there. Continue to Minehead (another 1.5 hours drive) and visit us here at Marston Lodge and let us organise an exciting off-road day on Exmoor, an aromatherapy massage for two, a romantic meal and a fishing trip, visit Dunster for a day or so and 'do the castle', carry on to St. Ives (about three hours of the most spectacular scenery) for the rest of the week. If you're feeling jolly rich you could do worse than spending a night at the famous and utterly luxurious Babington House in Somerset on the way home. See http://www.babingtonhouse.co.uk/ but don't expect to leave with your overdraft untouched!!!

Hope to hear from you soon! Have a fab time,

Katie

Assuming that you're a member of same sex, my suggestion is:

My idea of a weekend break is to get well-away from the madding crowd & the hustle & bustle of city, in some rather quiet country side offering caravan holiday.

Do make sure however to cook for you two, since your culinary skill could be a real turn-on for her (women likes men who's good at kitchen OR so I'm told) & such a turn-on could most certainly help satisfying your sexual whim as the night draws closer ;)

the cotswolds is the most beautiful part of england. i went for a romantic break in a town called chipping camden - not far from oxford. there's a little secret garden in the town which you just stumble across when you're walking through the town, it's so beautiful and quiet, very romantic place for a picnic or a proposal....
