do GP's have their own doctors or do they treat themselves?

A physician that treats himself has a fool for a patient - That's an old doctors saying.

They have to have their own GP although they can treat family members.

For straight forward ailments they treat themselves but they have their own doctor to give second opinions and treat them for more complex things.

They know the answers for their own and families illnesses, and first aid and which medications etc are best for their symptoms. I don't think they can prescribe for themselves! Iand if they need further tests (ie scans, surgery etc) they go throught he referral process like evryone else (although they might have more of a clue who they would like to be referred too!)

its illegal for any doctor to treat themselfs so they must appoint a doctor .any doctor who treats themselfs can be struck off for gross misuse of any medications prescribed by them selfs for there own personal usage unfortunatley .its a different matter if they purchase medication over the counter for personal usuage. this is then not illegal and has to be recorded in the chemists log book .
