If he's anything like my cat, he'll roll over to wait for a belly rub and then proceed to bite you and scratch at you til you stop! Don't give in! Then again, if you don't give in, he'll just follow you to bed and proceed to do cat like things in the bedroom (get feet, steal bed, meow and of coarse play all night long!) If I were you, Id give him some food and run to bed when he's not looking, lol

Take him to bed with you and rub his tummy for him
I love the way my cat snuggles up to me in bed, best part is that when I turn over she wakes up, steps over my head and settles down again in the same position, seems to not like snuggling the back of my head LOL
Shes only 9mths but shes just figured out when Im only pretending to be asleep also, must be the way we breathe or somethign, cos she puts her head really close to my mouth/nose and seems to know straight away if im faking

Pagan, the burmese in the pic, lays on his back with his head on my shoulder when I am lying in bed, that way I can rub his tummy and lay in bed at the same time.

I have only had him since Wednesday of last week. I brought him home from the animal shelter where I work and he settled in straight away.

Your cat, of course. He has more time on his hands (paws) to figure out a plan, and cats are really in charge, anyway.
