Keep the onion together while slicing. Make slices in one direction first, then the other. For the final chop, let the onion fall apart.

Alternatively, you can try chopping under water. Be careful!

Wear a blindfold or just stop using onions all together. Other options include making someone else chop the onions for you

Where goggles....lol
When i worked at subway we had something that would cut onions but when we had new employees/trainee's come in we would not tell them. We use to make them cut a bag of onions by hand. Well someone left a pair of swimming goggle at the store one day and we had a new employee there. So we had him cut the onions by hand and he wore the goggles (at his free will). He said they worked.

If you keep onions in the fridge it greatly reduces the stinging but it doesn't completely stop it.

I rinse them right after pealing, toss out the skins right away, then cut them on a board next to the sink, scoop them up and into the pan, with a fan over the stove and usually don't have a problem. Just getting them wet initially is sufficient.

You can cut the onions while they are in a bowl of water. Failing that, just breath through your mouth - this stops the irritation quite well, but not completely.

They say doing it underwater helps. That's too much trouble for me. I do wash my hands frequently so I don't inadvertently bring onion juice any closer to my face than necessary. I also keep a fan blowing away from me. i'm not sure if it helps but it can't hurt.

put them in the freezer for a little bit before you chop them, or wear goggles with a nose cover.

If you don't prevoke the onion, it will most likely not sting you.
