Why or why not?

2006-10-05 20:19:52 · 23 answers · asked by Skippy 6 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

By the way, this is a hypothetical question, if you are uncomfortable with them, there is no one forcing you to answer.

I'm not uncomfortable reading your answer Mr. Mister, but I am sad that you ignored my question and just slapped some canned answer up on the board.

Ummm, thanks Gio, for not actually answering the question.

I take it batsfan doesn't worship his god because he loves his god. He worships his god so that all who disagree with him will be punished. Nice.

upsman, I don't feel this question is irrelevant at all. As you can see by some of the answers posted, many would NOT be christian if there were no Hell, though most would. The purpose of the question is for people to think about their own beliefs, and WHY they believe them.

Seems like there are a lot of you who are still having trouble with the whole concept of a hypothetical question. Responding with "Hell DOES exist, here is where they talk about it in the Bible" is not an answer to my question.

So is that a yes or a no, Canadacraig?

Yes I would. Although some Christians accept God because they fear hell or seek heaven, most Christians come to understand that a life with Christ is a quest to better yourself. It's not easy.

Christianity requires that you learn Christ's message. It's more complicated than simply "getting saved" once. You have to learn to forgive others. You have to learn faith, even when the world challenges you. You have to learn that you're not doing these things (NOT pursuing riches, for example, or forgoing a life of easy sex, for another) because you expect rewards from God. You do these things as a duty.

It's like a child who is earning an allowance because he does his chores. When he's a teenager, his parents might or might not pay him an allowance, but he does his chores regardless because he's contributing to the household.

Even if I learned there was no place apart from God, I would still want to do my duty to God, and contribute to the household. I hope this made sense.

I would say that's an irrelevant quest. Are you saying that christians worship God only because they don't want to go to hell and for no other reason? I would say that a much better path to take than asking irrelevant questions is to find out whether there is a hell and if the christian God will keep you out of that hell. If you come to the conclusion that there is, and He does, then maybe you had better start worshipping that christian God too. To be stubborn and do otherwise would be stupid.
As for myself, I worship God because I believe He is the creator of all that there is and He sent His only begotten Son to die for me and pay for my sins(John 3:16). If God loved me that much, I figure the very least I can do is love Him in return and worship Him for what He is.....a great and Awesome God.

Hello!! :o) Well... I for one LOVE hypotheticals. In my lifelong quest to make sense of 'Hell' [And I'm still working on it - just so you know] I think humans NEED the threat of being punished for their inappropriate behavior. Humans are controlled by the concept of consequence. You can clearly see evidence of that anytime you have anything to do with a child. It's the same reason we could not survive without laws. Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

PS The answer to your question is YES!! :o)

Well, that sounds "mighty" nice, but I think you are only "wishful thinking". God gave us the Bible to read His words and live by them. The Bible does say there is a Hell. If you want to wish there is no hell then that is up to you. If the sky started to fall, then would you believe that there never was a universe? If God did not want to have a Hell, and everyone went to Heaven, I would still worship God. Who do you think is running Heaven, Popeye the sailor man? You can wishful think all day and night, but I personally will believe what God said in the Bible, until the day Christ comes and then we will know for sure. Until then, I am not taking chances and will worship Christ and God because they are in my soul, so it is up to them.

i'm so happy i do no longer could decide who is going to heaven and who isn't. i myself have not any theory... this is a activity for G-d, because of the fact he's the only one that is familiar with absolutely everyone nicely sufficient to make that decision. besides... G-d is One. yet, is the Spirit of G-d and G-d Himself, 2? No... basically as a man or woman isn't 2 basically because of the fact they have a spirit and a physique. particularly, we've 3 factors to our being. Spirit, it is our ideas, will, emotions.... soul, it is who and what we particularly are (our essence) and for sure physique, the means by which we are in a position to make our spirit and soul ensue in a actual international. in view that G-d made mankind in His photograph... it is smart that He has "3" factors too. it is how I see it besides... additionally, i've got faith G-d judges the heart. If He sees you're worshipping Him, doing what you comprehend is suitable with the understanding you have... i think of He somewhat honors that and takes that into attention.

Why? Would you love your father just because he gives you presents? Man, I know God. If you knew Him this question wouldn't be raised. But you can come to know Him.

And the existence of Heaven and hell is not a matter of what you think. They're facts - therefore the answers are a bit strange to give.

I am not Christian... actually I claim no religion. I used to be offended when someone said "god bless you" to me because I thought they saw me as someone who needs guidance or just as a religious freak. But now... years later, I read spiritual books nonstop because they fill me with such awe and joy. I don't believe anyone at all ever goes to hell... hell is only here on earth and self imposed in your own thoughts and limitations...God would not punish anyone for doing what he's asked of them...which is living with free will. And I think of spiritual things in my life actually more now that I have let go of the idea of hell!!! I am also no longer offended by "God bless you"... I actually wish it to everyone.

Hell doesn't exist. There are no words in the oldest scrolls that translate as hell or hell fire. It is just the grave and everyone goes there, even Jesus. He could do nothing until he was resurrected, not even visit the fallen angels to deliver God's Declaration of Judgment.

You believe in God -those who believe, at least- because they need to know there is an entity out there, who could help them out, when no man is more able to and it has nothing to do with Heaven or Hell..
Worshiping God is an expression of this belief.

Hi Skippy, would you think all else will exist if God didn't make hell and separate good from bad? by the way Satan is a kerubin and opposed God from everything that's why God made a place for Satan and all else who do sinful things! Have a nice day! -gio
