This site tells all about them> http://traciespugs.tripod.com/id1.html
Each AKC breed has a very strict breed standard..All dogs that are shown in conformation classes, are bred to be as close as possible to the breed standard..these standards are many years old, and for the pugs, it limits the allowed coloration...Brindles are not on the list of colors permitted...However, brindle's can be shown in other classes, such as obedience, agility, Canine good citizenship, Junior handling..
there is currently a movement to get the Breed Standard to accept brindle as a pug color, but such petitions take many years..

Every pure bred dog has a standard. A standard tells what a certain breed should look like and what color they should be or not be. Kind of like a recipe, if you are making a vanilla cake and you put in chocolate then you don't have a vanilla cake. Check the standard on the AKC.org site and it will tell you what is allowed for any AKC breed.

ALL breeds have a WRITTEN BREED STANDARD,which-among every OTHER aspect of the animal-states what color/colors are ALLOWABLE!!!
"Brindle" is NOT an acceptable color in pugs!!! That's a HUGE /HORRIBLE FAULT!!! A MAJOR/DIS QUALIFYING *FAULT*!!Like "white boxers" or "fluffy GSD" or."BLACK maltese" or..you name it.
Geeeeeeeeeeeze...the VAST majority of above answers are TOTALLY ignorant!!! WHY do you maroons BOTHER to post when you DON'T KNOW *SQUAT*???
Go read the BREED STANDARD!!!

brindle is just the coloring. There are certain colors for different breeds that are not considered standards and are there fore fround uppon. Doesn't mean they are not good animals, just does not meet the standard

They are now being called "miniature mastiffs" and are really cute. Here is a site that has an excellent picture.

I think they can be shown if they are registered.

It has to do with their color. The reason they are not allowed to be showed is because they are like hybrids. If you understand what i mean by hybrids.
