I once went to an interesting funerlalthat I will tell you about it n a minute. My mom is dying and I am thinking of having objects to represent key points of her life (ex--she is from Italy, map or Italian flag..she stepped on a land mine-make a replica marriage wedding thing etc.

Also am gong to put sheets of paper with a ring (the kind that opens and closes in a corner..have people write a memory of the deceased and then put it on a big ring (walmarts has big metal embroidery rings for a few dollars..then later have people read them aloud.

Can do a memory table or hobby display or something that represented important parts of or interests in the person's life.

The funeral my brother in law's mother had was so uplifting and it really made one think about life and want to live a good one..they all told stories of her (she sounded fantastic), invited people there to tell stories or memories (and they told wonderful ones of her kindness, etc)...kid's drew pictures and put by coffins..grandkids did a song (kids could do a play acting out memories).

They did it as a celebration --like going home..she was catholic but just got saved in last year so they were all happy...

They perform professsional; as a group and so they sang all these songs with musical instruments...her old time favorites, religious one, etc. They were really funny and we laughed so much..it caused our emotions to go all over hte map..funny one minute touching and poignant and sad the next.

The funeral director let them stay at least 2 or 3 hours later than usual..I never saw that happen before. We all sat in chairs..the room was overfloing with many standing and many overflowed into the hall..it was amazing.

One of the most unique tombstone I saw was a tree stump about five foot high...it looked like a tree stump but was some other material;.

I ike the tombstone where they draw colored pictures or use pictures on them a lot.

But do not give up hope..instread try Dr.ichard Schulze's incurable program..(get the save your life videos through

I used to work as an assistant embalmer for a mortuary and for one viewing I waited around one morning to catch a glimpse of the casket that the senior funeral director was telling the other staff about. Now, we sold caskets, however, we didn't sell specialty caskets, and what I mean by specialty caskets is that this one was shaped like a train carriage. It was the same length and width of a regular casket, but the height was slightly higher. The container was painted red, had windows painted on the side and actual wheels attached the bottom. The lid was one piece and was sculpted to mimic the roof of a smooth-line coach, The piece was styled after a classic British carriage from the early 1900s. The casket apparently was manufactured in Massachusetts and sent to our mortuary. I later saw the invoice for the casket and the interior which was also custom made. I thought our mortuary had some of the most-expensive caskets on the market, (with our 64-ounce gold-plated casket at $10,500. This box was $20,666. I remember that because it was by far the largest amount I had ever seen for a simple container.

I found out later that the funeral service was even more amazing. The man who was being buried wasn't being buried per se at all. Rather, his parents, who also had a love for the railroad had a unique type of crypt built and I learned from the cemetery owner that it required special permits to construct. The family crypt was arranged with actual narrow-gauge railroad tracks. The casket I learned was placed on a set of tracks, the funeral service was conducted, and the carriage was slid into the cement vault via these tracks, two mini iron doors were closed as though the coach was being stored in a carriage house, and then apparently later, after the service was complete, the staff sealed the face of the vault with concrete for protection of course.

I went to see this some time late for myself and sure enough, there the crypt stood, about five feet, maybe six feet high. I didn't realize it until some time later, apparently the cemetery had some difficulties with new property management, and I heard rumors that there was a potential that crypt was going to be demolished for erosion-related issues. I never heard about it any further after that, so I don't know what happened eventually.

The graveside ceremony was held first and attended only by the immediate family. Then we drove to the church where hundreds of people were waiting, and held a Celebration of Life ceremony. Everyone went home with their hearts and minds filled with memories of the living woman.

For my "funeral," I want my friends to sit quietly and listen to an hour of music that I have already selected - music that has meant something to me - from rock to opera. ;-)

release doves at the end of the grave side services or after funeral to symbolize their spirit being set free. play a funny or uplifting song at the end of the funeral. have the family to light a candle a piece and after services one by one, blow them out.

A party. To celebrate the Life of the person, and to celebrate what their Next life might be. It was emotional, and memorable, and something she would have enjoyed immensely.
