anytime you take to educate yourself about another culture is going to benefit you. By learning spanish, you can increase your employment skills by one as bi-lingual people are in high demand. You should be able to get a sense of the culture and to understand the reasons why immigration is such a controversial issue. Plus you will get to meet many interesting people you may not have thought to talk to before.

Yeah, Bikerbabe pretty much took my answer, lol.

By learning spanish, not only will it be useful if you go to a place where people speak it, or if you live where there are lots of spanish-speaking folks, you can also find out more about the rich culture behind the language.
Plus, if you put that you can speak something else besides just English on your college application, it'll look good.

The more you understand people (helps to know the language) The more you understsand about that person as a individual
And the more you understand about life and their way of life!....
Would you have known them if you diddn't know their language?
