It can depend on quite a bit...
One is the style you're learning and how receptive you are to it. I've trained in a lot of grappling based and striking based styles and have seen people adapt easily to one, but not so easily to another. How patient and open-minded you are is definitely a factor, so be prepared mentally and not just physically. Remember, Martial Arts takes time to develop in that even though you may be learning a certain style, the end result is that you're personalizing that style according to what works for you.
There's also the physical aspect you have to consider as well. Certain styles are better suited for certain body types, but it's usually your desire that will more than likely determine your success.
Last, but not least, your instructor can play a huge role in how easily you learn. If your instructor communicates well and gives you a solid amount of attention (some may need more than others), your progress can increase dramatically.
All these factors combined can decide whether or not your training is easy or difficult. But one thing I believe is that Martial Arts should be difficult to learn because if there were no challenge I think the people who do Martial Arts wouldn't be nearly as dedicated to it as they are...

i started when i was 8. i am 32 now. google search my name Steve hammerfists tipping.
I am a 3 time world champion. It may seem hard but no it is not. You learn basics first. You dont go doing back spin kicks or summersaualt kicks with the first week!
I didnt even fight until i was 12. You get taught what you need to know, and it is made sure you know what you are doing before facing any of the challenges put before you.
Go along and watch a lesson it is free to observe at any club.
All the best!

You can learn some basic techniques fairly easily & quickly. I have found that the longer I study Martial arts, the more I find out there is that I don't know yet. There is always more to learn. The better you want to be, the harder it is to get there, but it is worth every drop of sweat & every bruise.

As long as you have patience, time, and an open mind martial arts will be easy. At first it will be hard but after awhile it gets easy, and is really fun, I have been doing karate for 4 years now, and it is easy for me, and i have fun fighting the black and red belts in my school.

I have done basketball, tennis, archery, volley ball, gymnastics and martial arts.
I have done martial arts the longest.
I do not feel it is hard to learn. I feel it takes a lot of dedication and work. But I would not describe it as hard to learn.

if you don't wanna be made fun of by GOOD martial artists, then yea. if you're afraid of pain, it's impossible to be a great martial artist. unless of course you have the 7th sense and other people's attacks seem to be coming at slow motion, in which case you don't really need martial arts, don't you? lol

If it were easy to become proficient, everybody and their dog would be a martial artist. So - while it might seem hard, in the end it'll be worth it, when you're one of the few and proud that have become proficient at your chosen style.

Considering that the average person that learned how to fight back in the days of ancient times was a farmer or laborer they would not crate something that isn't "idiot proof" because they had to teach people of lower intelligence to fight and these were the bulk of any army.

I understand that it is easier to learn to speak English properly than
it is to learn martial arts...
Perhaps you should consider doing something easy and then moving on to harder stuff...

Any art/skill is damn hard to learn! Discipline is required to master anything worthwhile. Steel is not forged unless through fire!!!
