Jack Straw is correct, in Britain we have a culture of face to face, eye to eye contact. Where someone can't look you in the eye we feel them to be less trustworthy. It is quite in order that Jack requires this to be respected. Muslims who disrespect our culture should be forcibly expelled from the country

iirc there was an issue in some places in the US with some women who wanted to get a drivers liscense.
and have the veil on for the drivers liscense picture.
....
as obvious, common sense would dictate, this is an issue, as a photo id that does not show enough of the person in question to definitively be IDENTIFYING is a BIG problem!
honestly its completely legitimate to require exposing the face (I can imagine the hair isn't needed to be exposed... just the face) for things like photo ID's. if its so problematic then you simply can't get that ID, and you have to deal with that.
the fact is non-functional photo ID's are a risk for others, and cannot be allowed any more than fake ID's.
but for every day stuff... everyone has the right to wear their religious garments, as long as it does not cause danger to those around them.

I agree with him.
If it is matter of religion, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Pagans and Atheists have nothing to do or comment.
If it is a matter of social living, the Home Minister is right. A true patriot will be concerned about the segregation, alienation and hatred a particular community is subject to.

definite that's ok for him to ask. that's ok for them to decline, which they don't look to have performed even as requested. wearing a veil over the face isn't mandated through the Islamic faith. that's a convention in some sectors and communities. that's own determination.

No, I don't agree with it. If they want to wear their veils, that is their choice. That is like some jerk trying to tell me I can't wear my jammies when I want.
