1st ask yourself, how confident do you stand after you proposed?
Will you lost her or will she get distant from you? If you are not prepared now, better be friend 1st.. I have tasted it myself, same like your situation, we get much more distant from now which i really hated him why must he proposed to me in the 1st place! We are very closed in the past, as closed than my bF. But we gals must have chemistry in order to go for a relationship. As friends can remain forever... while couple don't really stay long! JiaYou... All the best...

The only way you can survive this is for her to say "yes." So do what you can to know the answer ahead of time. Find out whether she's interested in being tied down to anyone. Is she interested in your type of personality? Any signs or clues that she may propose to you? If you are uncertain of the answer, then the answer will surely be "no," and your relationship will be ruined by your proposal.

If you really want to propose, then you should be willing to risk the friendship. I will almost certainly change if she rejects the proposal. If you are not willing to risk this, then you shouldn't ask.

You might try poking for details and exploring interest without coming right out and asking.

Good luck.

Yes there is 99% that your relationship as a friend will get affected. if I were you try to choose the 2 options:
you will court her then if she will refuse your relationship will affected.
You will try to court her because you are confident in yourself that she will say "yes"
