It is going to be simple; wine and cheese and so on. Or what do you recommend? And do you have any suggestions on how I should decorate? I don't mind making my own decorations.

I would keep the decorations simple, some fall leaves, real or fake, arfully arrranged, some seed pods, or those stickey balls would be cute.. Some gourds in a bowl, a cornucopia, fancy, or plain. Some candles, either the pretty decorated ones in fall colors, or some smelly spicey ones.
Marta Stewart has some beautiful pumpkins, that you poke holes in to make them look like lace with a light behind it .And there are several that you ink, or paint on, in adddition to cutting holes in it.
Go to her web site, it might be worth your time.
Why not try some fondue? It sounds simple to make, and easy to serve, it would be nice addition to the cold cheeses. There are several kinds, one with swiss cheese, another with cheddar and beer. Allrecipes.com might help. There are dessert fondues, too.
Are there going to be some hungry guys there? Try melting some Velveeta, or the generic brand, and adding some chunky salsa and cut up black olives and serve with taco chips, or melt the cheese and add chili, with or without beans, and serve with Scoops. Very rich and filling, not very fancy, but they might appreciate it.
Have a nutty cheese ball, or try a spread for variety, I like the alouette brand at the store. And have some crusty bread and some crackers.. A bowl of homemade spiced or sugared nuts would be great with the cheese. A cute gift for your friends: get a plain or pretty small glass jar with a tight lid, decorate it in keeping with the decor of the party, and send it home with them, full of the homemade nuts, as a favor. Tie some leaves on it it with some pretty ribbon, or just some ribbon. Buy some material, fall patterned, and cut it with pinking shears into a square. put it over the lid, and tie it with pretty ribbons around the neck of the bottle, you can still add a tie on, if you want.
A rich, creamy soup would be nice, or maybe some hot, mulled cider.
I would find a fall dessert or two, pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, spice or carrot cake, apple cobbler. Something you can make in advance, and just warm up, or serve cold.
Have fun at your party!
