My mom's cat didn't have a bloody discharge, but she had a swelling around her lips and cheeks. When we took her to the vet, the vet asked if we used plastic feeding and water bowls. We did. The vet said that it was a reaction to the plastic. He gave us some medicine and sent us home. We changed the bowls to a ceramic food bowl and a glass water bowl. We never had the problem come back.

The point is, if you go ahead and take your cat to the vet, it might be something as simple as replacing a food bowl, or it could be as bad as cancer. The only way you will find out is to take your cat to the vet. Even if it is bad news, you might have gotten to the vet in time to save your cat.

I think that you should take him to the vet. He is very old for a cat and he could be starting to go down hill. most cats dont live that long. you should really consider getting that looked at. It could be a form of cancer and it could be killing him slowly. I hope that all is ok though. I know that it is tough to lose an animal that you have had for so long and love so much. Best of luck to you and your tom
