The stomach acts like a hammock suspended inside your abdominal walls. If you fill the stomach then jog, you may get a side ache because of the inertia of your heavier stomach. For energy, you have to eat right the evening BEFORE your morning run. Have a good balanced dinner with carbs and PROTIENS and this will be your fuel in the morning. If you need something before the jog, something smooth, like a yogurt is best.

The first – and easiest – step you should take towards becoming more healthy is so, so simple; it’s eating breakfast. Breakfast eaters get myriad benefits including:
* a revved up metabolism started early so that it burns the maximum number of calories to fuel your activities
* fewer total calories consumed throughout the day
* an increased leptin output
What’s leptin, you ask? Leptin is a hormone that suppresses appetite. Eating a significant meal early in the day ensures our body’s leptin production, says Meg Jordan, Ph.D., R.N. – as reported to First, September 2003. The book "Fit Not Fat at 40-Plus: The Shape-Up Plan That Balances Your Hormones, Boosts Your Metabolism, and Fights Female Fat in Your Forties-And Beyond", published by Prevention Health Books for Women, has more of Dr. Jordan’s thoughts on leptin’s influence on appetite.
Since leptin suppresses appetite, it follows that those of us who eat breakfast would take in fewer calories throughout the day. In fact, researchers at the University of Texas, El Paso, studied the food diaries of 586 men and women and determined that the more food people ate in the morning, the fewer calories they consumed in an entire day. So eat up early.
Also if you exercise on an empty stomach you will not burn calories as effectively. If you aren't really hungry I suggest you try eating a piece of fruit or a handful of cereal. Your body will thank you for it.

I was always told that you should eat something or drink something. Because the body needs carbs and protein to work right and you would have more energy for the run. I don't mean sit and eat a huge bacon breakfast and then run but something simple like bananas or yogurt, gurnola things like that. You want to burn cals when you run but your body needs the food for better energy.

Definitely you should eat and drink something first. How about an orange or banana with a slice of toast. Have your protein (egg, cereal, cheese ?) after you finish . Remember to drink water.
Happy jogging.

I wouldn't run on an empty stomach. I usually eat about an hour before I know I’m going to run.

Personally I like to workout with nothing in my stomach. Especially in the morning. If I eat something it decreases my chances of working harder. You can eat something light but not too heavy.

hubby runs empty , but if your seriously hungry, try just a couple of crackers before a jog.
something light, a fruit, but nothing spicy, or acidy.

Fluids are critical. Tank up. As for calories, it's a question of what you're training your body to do. If you want to run marathons, you probably want to train your body to run with no fuel. If you just want to run a few miles, do whatever is most comfortable.
