Good Q:
I have a full kitchen with oven in my office. I always felt my employees should be able to cook lunch/dinner instead of having to eat that McDonalds crap...
For the most part it's ok... but man oh man... I have this one employee who loves to cook with curry... on everything... my office smells like an Indian brothel at least 2x per week... good thing we have lots of windows!

Ah well, and then there is me, who regards a smoke alarm as an oven timing device. When it goes off I check to see if my food is done yet. People here are very proud of there cultural heritage and have been bringing extra of their favourite dishes for me to try. They are quite insistent about it and seem insulted If I refuse and want to put my usual Kipper dinner in the oven to warm up. I am really starting to like some of the Curry dishes and there are some Chinese meals that are OK as well.

The Break area/Lunch room is regarded as an area where co-workers can be able to go in and rest, eat their lunch. I believe it is absolutely disrespectful for some to bring in their foods from home and walk away leaving their mess as they probably do in their own homes.
Many people have allergies to foods, and the Employer should take heed to this, otherwise the next Lawsuit we will see, is that of "Employee hospitalized from Allergy in Lunchroom".
Employers/Employees will care at this point.

I hate that too. I think it's pretty inconsiderate, considering the ventilation systems in most buildings. I'd rather smell burnt popcorn for an hour than fish or some of the international foods. And then if you go microwave your food after them, your food tastes like what they ate! Gross.

i can somewhat understand where you are comming from, most of the people that i work with ate asian. they actually laid a 6 foot octopus on one of the tables int eh lunchroom and about 9 of them started each eating their own little tenticle.. now i go out to lunch. everyday.
i asked Human Resources if i could butcher a deer in the cafe this year, i really have no problem eating it raw. they told me no that it was improper. so why can they butcher a freakign 8 legged fish.

I think they are socially retarded. I used to work with a woman who would bring in boiled cabbage and boiled fish and heat it up in the microwave. It would make me gag for hours. The whole office smelled like an old folk's home. It reeked.
You have my condolences.

Hello! There is someone in our office who brings fish in once a month. They nuke it in the kitchen microwave. It smells up the whole side of the office. And it lingers!
The only thing I can think of is it doesn't smell bad to them. I mean if it smelled bad to them why would they eat it.

a little of both, if your work has any sort of "real" management you should speak to them about it. No real job would put up with such things.
