Why do people drive with fog lights on during NON-foggy days/nights? Besides blinding the other drivers (or seeing thru fog) what useful purpose are they? Do some people think it looks cool? Do you think it looks stupid too, cause I don't get it!

There really is no reason for using fog lights when there is no fog. Most people (mainly kids, but there are some adults), think that they look cool.
I had a car that had fog lights and when I used them when it was foggy people always flashed their high beams at me because they thought I was driving with my high beams on. Little did they know, when I flashed my high beams at them they were blinded.
But there is no reason for using fog lights unless it's foggy. Why anyone uses them for no reason is beyond me. Go figure!

Any car with fog lights looks ten times better than a car without. It DOES look cool. Besides, those of us driving cars need to have some defense against the SUVs that are blinding us with their headlights at eye level to a normal car. Let's point our fingers at that issue. Even at that, I don't think fog lights blind other drivers. I've always had them and have never been bright-lighted or had brights flashed at me.

I mounted the brightest lights I could find at the off-road supply store on my car's bumper. Now when the jerks come at me with their fog/driving lights blinding me and refuse to back them down I give it right back to them 10X greater.

I drive with mine on too. But you've noticed, haven't you? And that is the key here...if you notice, you can see and avoid...which can make for safer driving hopefully for all of us. And yes, I think they look cool. As far as seeing through fog, I don't think they're that effective for that at all. You can actually see better through fog or heavy snow by turning down the lights - to only driving with the running lights or the parking lights on - creates less reflection and glare that way.

If you're talking about cars whose lights stay on all the time, but not the night driving lights--a lot of cars, including mine, have that system and there is no way to turn them off. I guess the manufacturers figure it's a safety feature.

Wow, you must live near me. This is a huge problem where I live. I'm so sick of being blinded by those stupid lights. Definitely NOT cool, or attractive. Stupid

They don't have a purpose and they are put on by selfish or stupid jerks. It should be illegal to use the lights if its not foggy - they are a menace otherwise, as are halogen lights.

most of the newer cars the fog lights come on automatically like when they turn their car on and they cant turn them off
