G'day Robbie B,

Thank you for your question.

Due to the resources boom, there is a shortage of skilled jobs in Western Australia including Perth. The Western Australian Government has its own migration agency called the West Australian Skilled Migration Unit (SMU). This agency focuses on the regions especially the mining regions where there are serious skill shortages. The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMIA) has a skilled matching database where you can leave your details so an employer can sponsor your migration. I have also listed the general list of skills in demand.

You might also want to see if you could undertake training for an occupation on the list or whether someone else such as your wife has those skills.

I would also look at adding your CV to Australian sites such as Monster.com in Australia to see if you can attract interest from an employer.

Regards

Perth is growing very fast and currently has a major shortage of skilled construction workers. Arc-welders are in high demand. Try hooking up with a construction company and maybe they can sponsor you on something like a crane-operator job or something which would be similar to trucking.

operating construction equipment and driving trucks are not even remotely similar. but, using the construction industry as an opening is a very good idea. they need drivers. there is your tip.
