We want to have a small gathering of friends and family at our house but I'm looking for some fun or unique ideas for the party to keep people entertained and make it memorable for the family.

I will tell you that for my child's first birthday I was determined to do it up right. I actually made myself crazy making carrot cookies into alphabet letters to spell out Happy Birthday Iris and lots of Xs and Os, I washed the curtains and generally made myself nuts. Every year after that was easier. The next year i got an Elmo birthday cake from the local bakery and Iris was delighted. The next year I got petite fours and the kids loved having their own little birthday cakes. For one birthday we had it at a playground - we got hoagies & pizza from the local place and did petite fours again for the picnic area. We had a pinata and swings and slides all day. I think that was our most memorable party yet.
My sister in law did a jungle theme part for one of her kid's birthdays - with lots of green streamers hanging from the ceiling and stuff. Another year she hand made a Thomas the Tank Engine cake.
I had another friend who seemed to make the 1st birthday most memorable by not feeding their kid much earlier in the day thinking they would eat a lot at the party. Well, that kid went to everybody and anybody that would give her a snack. Everyone left feeling flattered that such a small baby would sit with them so long, not really realizing that the kid was there for the food!

well have a small playground fot the party venue to make kids enjoy. have some mascots to entertained them and of course have some games which makes also the parents can participate with their kids.It will left a memorable events for the kids and the parents if they both can excel on some games.Before your guest left prepare some give aways that they can kept in their home to remind them of your kids 1st birthday
