depends where you are. In Australia there is a certain amount that they have to leave, this includes the nessessities. If you have children they cant take the washer i think they have to leave a TV not sure on that . They cant take beds the fridge. If anyone else is living in the house they cant take there stuff. Like the gurl about said move what you dont want them to take except the nessesities. But leave lounge beds stuff like that or they will know you moved the stuff. There should be free legal sites on the net for where you live, try looking in there. A gurl I know who had kids had a balif come over and she was told dont let him in the house at all. The balif was fine with her though and told her she could keep nessessities to the value of..... cant remember what it was and that the childrens furniture and there prams etc wouldnt be touched nor her fridge washer and lounge has they cant be seen to be making live tough for lil kids. Good luck with it

if you have anything in your house that is on HP they cant touch it so the best thing you can do is tell them most of your stuff has not been paid for if i where you don't let them over your door step in fact don't answer the door they need the police their to break the door down and they have got to have a warrant any way before they can do that but if you have debts you are better of making an offer if its only £2 pound a week they cant make you pay what you cant afford so to keep them of your back just make an offer if its only small that way they think you are making an effort to pay

Bailiffs can only take things that belong to you (the person thats on their paperwork)..if you are expecting a visit from the bailiffs , DO NOT LET THEM IN, they need a warrant to enter your house.if they ask to come in, that gives them the power to enter your property any time, any item that is NOT yours cannot be taken..for instance your TV, if you get a friend to makeup a paying book and half fills payments in ,the bailiffs cannot take it as it is your friends as you are paying off your debt to her..computers and video games cannot be taken if they are your kids..any item you have on hire purchase cannot be taken as the item isn't yours until the last payment, they cannot take any item that you depend on eg cooker and if they take your furniture they must leave you 1 chair to sit on..normally bailiffs are quite understandable and will give anyone time to pay off the debtor or may be a right ba**ard...good luck

The BBC's Whistleblower was about Bailiffs last week, try and get a copy of this program as it told you all you need to know about what they can and can't do......it was a real eyeopener I swear.

I thought they had the same authority as police but the fookin don't....they are not allowed to enter your property, even if they get their foot in the door. Alot of them weren't even licensed so make sure you ask for their paperwork.....get a copy of this program, it's worth knowing YOUR rights and THEIR scams!!!!

They are allowed to take practically anything up to the value of what is owed.
If you have dependants like small children or elderly relatives living at the property then they must leave essentials such as fridge, cooker etc.
If you are expecting them round then try to move most of your possessions to an alternative place.

They can't take anything that is listed on a hire purchase agreement.
Whatever happens don't let them in,no matter how kind and convincing they are.
That foot across your doorstep means they can conduct whats called a walking inventory, basically making a note of anything of value.

Only the property of the person who's name is on the papers and only if they think that they can re-gain on selling any monies owed.
If in doubt always check their paperwork and call police/solicitors if need be. Do not let them intimidate you or your family.

Bailiffs are not allowed to take anything that affects your livelihood or your ability to support yourself eg if you were a carpenter they couldn't take your tools etc.

If its your debt, the best thing to do is clear your debt.
If its your debt, they can take anything bar essentials as already stated...however, if they take stuff that isn't yours, it needs to be proved that it isn't your or they will take it.

If it isn't your debt (eg your partners, sons, daughters etc) then they cannot take anything that is yours, but you need to be able to show that the stuff is yours.
