I have a nephew that just turned two and he knew he had to go to the restroom at 18 months. He didn't really grasp the concept, but he knew when he went and when he needed to go. I think he's just about ready now. Your three year old should defiantly know how to use the potty by now. You would save on diaper expense, that’s for sure! Some children's bladder mature later. My cousin's bladder didn't mature till he was 11 and my brother and law had trouble till he was six. So, if there are no problems, teach him now. You have nothing to lose! :)

Well no offence but your child isn't just going to learn on their own... you need to show them and be consistent with the routine and praise until they catch on.
I could understand if your 3 year old was having difficulty with it but if you haven't even started maybe your in-laws are justified in being concerned.
Assuming they are not developmentally delayed, most kids are starting to learn to potty by 18 months, pretty much as soon as you can get them to sit still on the seat for 20 seconds is a good time to start.

You will know when your child needs to be potty trained. He or she will bring you a diaper, that shows you they can sense when they go. You should introduce the little potty chair to your child. I had a problem with my son being afraid of the toilet so I got him the little one that makes flushing noises and he showed alot more interested in learning. If you have a son be patient with him, boys are much harder to train then girls. But it's time you really should get started on it already

I was potty trained by the age of 18 months or so. So you should definitely start potty training your three year old!

Yeah, you need to get to it. You should have started working on this around 18 months assuming your baby started walking around 12 months. Maybe you should buy an early childhood development book to help you with the various stages of development & what is reasonable to expect from your child and what you should do and when you should do it to help your baby move along on track.

As soon as you can hold him/her upright on the pot. All my sibs (and Yours Truly) were out of diapers when just months old.
