The cause of scoliosis is unknown. It is known that there is a genetic predisposition to adolescent scoliosis.

Scoliosis may also develop as a result of malformations of the spine present at birth or in association with spina bifida.

Scoliosis may also develop due to unequal leg length or as a result of injury to the spine.

Rarely Scoliosis develops as the result of neurological disease.

Scoliosis is curvature of the spine - most found in children - since it is not diagnosed at birth, it is certainly something you get as your spine begins to grow, and if it does not grow straight, it is curved. A brace worn while a child is in their growing years can correct this.

It's congenital, ie. you're born with it. Remember though, that bad posture can give you back problems too.
