I AM 51 and was diagnosis with fibromyalgia and later found out that i now have miminal scoliosis and was told that i was ''born with it '' but i do not believe it !!! i visit my doctor again yesterday because my spine is curving and he tells me that everybody has this illness . he this its a joke i have been neglect !! i am in so much server pain do not have health care and go to a free clinic .i have asked to be referred to a specialist but so far no response . he also stated that i had scoliosis when i was 10 and i never seen this doctor in my life but i do have a lawyer . i do not understand whats going on with my situation with any of these doctors at this free clinic in MOORE COUNTY ., but i do not believe anything that they are telling me about the disease due to it do not run in my family history.

The cause of scoliosis is unknown. It is known that there is a genetic predisposition to adolescent scoliosis.
Scoliosis may also develop as a result of malformations of the spine present at birth or in association with spina bifida.
Scoliosis may also develop due to unequal leg length or as a result of injury to the spine.
Rarely Scoliosis develops as the result of neurological disease.

Scoliosis is curvature of the spine - most found in children - since it is not diagnosed at birth, it is certainly something you get as your spine begins to grow, and if it does not grow straight, it is curved. A brace worn while a child is in their growing years can correct this.

It's congenital, ie. you're born with it. Remember though, that bad posture can give you back problems too.
