For the sake of debate consider the following conversation.
And the Lord spake unto His servant, 'I am the Lord thy God and I command thee to sacrifice thy only son.'
The man replied, 'There's something not right here. Your commandments say, "Thou shalt not kill".'
'The Lord giveth the rules and the Lord taketh away.' replied God.
'But how do I know you are God?' insisted the man. 'Perhaps you are the devil trying to fool me?'
'You must have faith,' replied God.
'Faith - or insanity? Perhaps my mind is playing tricks? Or maybe you're testing me in a cunning way. You want to see if I have so little moral fiber that at the command of deep voice booming through the clouds, I commit infanticide.'
The Lord replied, 'What you're saying is that it is reasonable for you, a mere mortal, to refuse to do what I, the Lord thy God, commands.'
'I guess so,' said the man , ' and you've given me so good reasons to change my mind.'
What do you think?

I am not sure if you are suggesting that you are talking like Abraham of the Old Testament. In the olden days of Abraham it was still possible for Abraham to follow God's command. Most likely there was still a very fresh memory about sacrifices and offerings of sort in the other part of the earth by the people or pagans before or during his time. A reason why he never even asked God why. That was his first encounter with God and maybe he thought that was the ordinary thing for God to ask. Believing he really is talking with God who is creator of all things so he presumed God can take anyone back at His beck and call.
This time that God has left the decision for man to do what he is free to do then anyone who would say that he is going to kill his son because God asked him to will face a lot of controversies. There is also a great possibility that he can be visited at the insane assylum if not in the death row prison cell.
You are talking about an Old test to man regarding his faith. That was the very first time God ask someone to do it and there was none after that.

Where did you get that? First of all If God says so do it. God doesnot just say kill and you kill. These days are different then the days of the old testiment. Most of us are so consumed with what is going on in our own lives that we never even hear when the Lord is speaking to us, and believe me he is not telling us to kill .... Live by Faith do the same. Are you forgetting we do have this little thing called free will. So if you do get the call to kill your first born that would be your decision to make.

the man in your version is clueless about the blessing that he has received from God. In the real story, Abram knew that it was God who had given him a son. Both he and Sarah were old, too old to have children on their own. Also Christ tells us later in the New Testament that "my sheep listen to my voice". So it makes sense that he would have known it was God. One of the biggest problems people have is that they do not know who God is. They do not spend time or effort learning who he is. Then they are easily fooled. If we love God then we should want to spend more time learning about him.

Did God not set a sacrifice upon that hill for the man to give to Him?

I think that you should know that it wouldn't have been infanticide since Isaac would have been around 25 years old. :)
