What is a soul anyways? Is it my mind, my thoughts, my personalty? Isn't my mind in my head and brain? When my head dies, won't I cease to think? How come lobotomized people lose their personality? Overuse of LSD causes serious changes in the thoughts and personalities of people. Does LSD change a person's soul? What has a soul anyways? Just people, or other animals as well? How about plants, or bacteria, or viruses? Does any form of life have a soul? What constitutes life anyways? A chemical machine that consumes, burns fuel, grows, and reproduces? Does the sun have a soul? People speak of the lifespan of the sun. Does a jar of water with 1000 different chemicals mixed together have a soul?

I have only this proof: I write my own answers without a giant cut and paste mess.
Why should I bother? Because I want to say something for myself.
Here's how it breaks down for me: I live as a body. I have a brain that directs the functions of my body. My brain contains a bunch of information. As a system, that information and its movements are called my mind. When I tell my mind where and on what I want it to focus, who is doing the telling? Does my mind direct my mind? Can a mind love or hate or experience pleasure or pain? It's just a collection of data. The part that directs and controls and experiences and OWNS the entire system of "me as a living being" is my soul.
You might have one too. Most thoughts are just information, but the directorship of that information is the soul. A personality is just an outer paint job; what you choose to show others. The choosing is done by the soul. When your head dies, you may indeed cease to think and cease to have a personality. You may even cease to be aware. I don't know. I also don't know if plants, animals, bacteria or viruses are aware because they won't talk to me. Would you? Who can say whether the sun is aware? The only way that we know that humans are aware (if we accept it at all) is because humans talk to each other about their experiences. If you find it more comforting to suppose that you are not conscious, then you have every right to suppose that. Researchers haven't had any more luck in defining consciousness than they have had in trying to prove the existence of a soul. I say those two are the same. And I feel like I have or I am that. I don't need any other proof. You won't find any proof outside of yourself.
Good luck.

Nora Explora is right on!!! The soul is something very much subjective. You need to get in touch with it within yourself.

I have read and examined a lot of spiritual texts including the Bible, Bhavigad Gita, Upanishads, Torah, Talmud, Zohar, Tibetan book of the dead, Tao Te Ching.....
I have been to church, temple, mosque and worshiped with Christains, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus

After doing all this the book that I read about all this stuff that makes the most sense is Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now"

Buy the CD version of this book and listen to it slowly and meditate to it....it will help you understand the nature of religion and spirituality....and here’s a clue....there is a universal intelligence and whether you call it GOD or the source or whatever it doesn't matter...and here is another clue......you get to this source by looking within...not without.

Good Luck!!

According to the Bible, the soul is the person or the life that the person enjoys. When the person dies, the soul dies and the Bible talks about dead souls. Animals are also referred to as souls in the Bible but no inanimate objects are.

Unfortunately I am not smart enough to answer your questions. I hope - I truly hope that we all have a soul. Something that survives. Something that knows better once it has shed the body it used to gain experience. Something that goes somewhere after the stupid brain is dead.

I hope.

The soul is the body and the spirit together. I think you are actually asking about the spirit. The spirit is the essence of life. It is measured as energy and is matter of a finer nature than matter that is physical.

It's not about proof.....it's about faith. It's not your mind, or your thoughts, or your personality. Nothing can change your soul. I feel sorry for people that are not in touch wth their soul, they don't know who they really are and what they want and need.
