Nerve pain is hard to treat with medications, but he should see a Dr for some scans so that he knows where it stems from and why he has it. Accupuncture has been shown to be helpful for nerve related pain though.

If he has periperal neuropathy from diabetes it is going to be hard to treat. There are a lot of quack therapies. His problem is pain and the fact that it disables him. He or you can call his Dr's nurse and explain that this is going on 24/7 and he can't take it anymore. He is depressed and at the end of his rope. Ask if he can take a pain med every 6 hours and start taking an antidepressant too. Keep bugging them and if they won't help Uncle find another Doc. Go to as many as you need to until you get the treatment. I have found that Family Nurse Practitioners are very empathtic and helpful. Good luck to the both of in getting this pain treated.

It sounds like your uncle needs to see a couple of specialist. Start out with his Primary Care Physician to get a neurologist consult and possibly a Pain Management Specialist to assist. Make sure that the Primary docs are adequately speaking to one another about your Uncles condition. Like said before, neuropathic pain is difficult to treat, but it is a matter of trial and error sometimes. Neurontin is a likely place to start...you can add or replace that with Amitriptyline (an old antidepressant, but it is an atypical pain reliever, especially if your uncle is depressed from the chronic pain). Depakote is an anti-seizure medication that I've had a lot of luck against diabetic neuropathic pain. There's a new drug called Lyrica (which is related to Neurontin) that I've just started giving out and have had a lot of great results form. Another one off the top of my head is Methadone, which is a long acting opioid pain reliever, but I've had a lot of fantastic results on cancer patients with nerve pain from the malignant invasion.
Hope that helps and hope your Uncle feels better.

I have a Ataxia nervosa. My nervous system is deteriorating. After it gets to a point, it turns super sensitive. Right now this super sensitiveness is mostly in my feet and lower legs. Every sensation I feel at all is transmitted to me as pain. I'm on all kinds of meds. Nothing really helps, it just barely takes the edge off. I live with it. There's nothing else I can do.

European doctors use lipoic acid 300-600 mg a day to treat neuropathy. Monavie juice has helped some persons with this condition.

Get his butt to a neurologist.... there are over a hundred diseases that have those particular symptoms.

I myself suffer from an autoimmune disease that i'd rather not discuss here. Suffice to say, I do suffer peripheral neuropathy. I take a drug called neurontin. But... do not use me as an example. Get him to a Dr. asap for an exam.

Good luck.

Brain tumor diagnosis, cancer or not, he should be getting follow up mri's every few months or at the very least, a couple times a year. Brain tumors have a nasty habit of growing back, sometimes it will grow back cancerous or if it was cancerous, it will grow back at a higher grade. That's why us who had brain tumors have a scan on a regular basis.
