I asked my roommate who is a grad student in Spanish Literature. She says only in the beginning of sentences or when in lists. Although a proper name, it is a rule that it is not capatilized within sentences. This is the same for days of the week.

No. Neither are the days of the week.

On the use of uppercase/lowercase letters, the Royal Spanish Academy (which is the Spanish Language Authority) says:

"It is recommended, on the otherhand, to write the names of the days of the week, of the months and the seasons of the year with initial lowercase letters. Examples:
El lunes es su día de descanso.
La primavera empieza el 21 de marzo."

No. In Spanish, names of months are not capitalized, even though they are proper nouns. Days of the week are also not capitalized.
