Good question!

Much of the language is beautiful to read, but the style may be unfamiliar to many modern readers. What is the message for modern Christians, especially those new to the faith?

My men's group recently had a discussion about it. Most of the men there are married, and they agreed that it made for excellent marriage counseling!

(It describes a loving marriage perfectly).

That God designed sex to be a loving relationship between a husband and a wife. His lover was his wife (one of many for King Solomon). If you realize what the pomegranates are in those verses you realize that Solomon actually did more than just straight missionary sex.

So, for anyone who doubts whether God approves of sex, it's in there, for several thousand years, the earliest version of a steamy romance novel.

The Song of Solomon illustrates the beauty of enduring and constant love. Such unswerving love is reflected in the relationship of Christ Jesus and his bride. (Eph 5:25-32) Thus The Song of Solomon can serve to encourage those professing to be of Christ’s bride to remain faithful to their heavenly bridegroom.—Compare 2Co 11:2.

The text, read without allegory as a celebration of sexual love, appears to alternate between addressing a male object of affection and a female one. Some scholars suggest that the poems may be a series of antiphonal remarks and responses between a male and female pair, possibly created by one author rather than reflecting a genuine series of exchanged poems. Other scholars suggest that it is a collection of originally more independent poetry.

IT lets us know that God gave us the passions that we are always trying to control.

It lets us know that passion exists before marriage, and builds and builds and that we impatiently wait for the moment that we can finally put that passion to physical acts.

It shows that a man and a woman can love each other passionately prior to marriage without giving in to the temptation to act physically on it before marriage.

It is written very poetically, and shows the differences in how women view their passion and men view their passion. I love to read how the man compares physical assets and the woman compares the mans physical assets. It shows so much about how we are wired differently, but for the same purpose.

What an amazing God we have that created us.

Fred,
There are many meanings that each of the portion of the scriptures mean. It is not possibly to answer the whole book under these circumstances but I am taking two verses to just give you a glimpse but for more information you can ask me more...The second step is when He approaches her and says, “I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse…Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled” (S. of S. 5:1-2). She has to produce her IDENTIFICATION, the SEAL, or the TOKEN of the Holy Spirit in her life (Eph. 1:13-14). Here the Bride lies upon the bosom of her loved One, whispering, “Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth: for Your love is better than wine” (S of S. 1:2).

It has two aspects to it -- the physical and the spiritual. In the physical, it describes a right sexual relationship between a man and his wife.

Spiritually, it describes the love that Jesus has for his wife, the Church.

Off hand, Id say an example of Gods romantic love story for ........HIS BRIDE. (THOSE THAT FAITHFULLY BELIEVE AND FOLLOW HIM , SEEKING AND WAITING FOR HIS RETURN).
THE GOSPEL/REST OF THE BIBLE IS THIS AS WELL HOWEVER THIS IS KINDA.......MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD.
GOD IS-THE ONE THAT CREATED UNION. SEXUALLY INFACT TO BE THE CAUSE OF LIFE.
SO...BEING A TAD EXPLICIT IS UNDERSTANDABLE, ESPECIALLY HOW GRAFFIC THE REST OF THE BIBLE IS WITH WAR AND DEATH, AND HEAVEN AND HELL.
