they would have been branded as hating gays and treading on foley's rights and would have come under fire for that...the truth is the democrats are looking for anything to stir the pot as it is nearing the mid-term elections

NZQUIZZTI - if indeed you are gay, which i doubt you would then know for a fact the republican party would have been viciously attacked if they had fired foley and then he admitted he was gay. the dem's would have had a field day with the old idea that all republicans hate gays...you are so ridiculous trying to use the 'i'm gay' thing to prove a biased lie.

hey WUNDT - care to discuss barney frank? the facts are coming out and they are finding now that the 15 yr old was actually 18 (age of consent right or wrong) and that they were not even serving at the time of the communications...ironic isn't it.

There was no evidence of any wrongdoing at that time and the longer this goes on the more it appears to be the hollow smear that was intended.
If it turns out that this is true (link) the Democrats will have to launch a new attack this afternoon to wipe this off the headlines.

You're absolutely right. And the Democrat party leadership has done nothing except wait for this opportunity to ambush the Republican party at election time.
It will be interesting to see how allegations in the Drudge Report pan out. Drudge says the Mark Foley deal was a house page's prank gone wrong. According to Wikipedia, the book "Way to Win" describes Drudge as a modern Walter Cronkite. Drudge broke the Monica Lewinski story.

Excuses, excuses. If the Republicans had fired Foley and publicized the fact that they did it because he engaged in inappropriate behavior by sending sexually explicit emails and IMs to 16 year old boys, people would have respected that. I am one of those people. I am gay. I would not have seen Foley's firing as anything having to do with his being gay but his being sexually inappropriate. His gayness shouldn't even matter. His actions toward CHILDREN should.
Anybody, whether they are gay, heterosexual, Republican, Democrat, black, white, WHATEVER who sends those kinds of emails to a 16 year old CHILD should be fired.
Can you tell me truthfully if Foley had been a Democrat that the Republicans wouldn't be "stirring the pot as it is nearing the mid-term elections?"
I think it's disgraceful that this whole thing has become "politicized." We are talking about grossly inappropriate sexual behavior from a top government official. Whether he is Republican or Democrat shouldn't matter. What matters is that he be punished for this behavior.

If they had fired pedophile Mark Foley much sooner they would not have been paid a reported $750,000 in hush money from Foley over the past year. However, the nation would not have been as stained by this catastrophy for the Bush Administration's party-- especially just after being slammed by foreign leaders and the UN for every other horror they've done.
But since when has the Republican Administration cared about anything Americans think? Even their staunchest supporters in middle America are abandoning them for good reason. Remember, the words "American people" only means "Dollar Signs" to Bush and his crew. Listen carefully to him next time when he says $American People$

Foley offered to quit before the last election. They had an out and could have made this go away without any scandal or problems. But, the Republican leadership didn't want to take a chance at losing a house seat and so told him to re-run. (This is backed up by reports from Republican insiders).
The Republicans covered this up because power is more important to them than morals or the law. Try as you might, this is a 100% Republican scandal.
