whather removing the vocal nodules has any sideeffects?

I have nodules on my vocal chord and doctor suggests to remove them with a operation.

A singer friend of mine had this surgery and the only side effect was that she was able to sing a little higher than she used to. Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins) also had this surgery and although she could still speak with no problem, she was unable to sing the way she could before and the surgery just about ended her career.
