Good answer dfirefox. What happens when you sober up? Really, it depends on how depressed you get and how long it lasts. Everyone gets blue sometimes. The problem arises when it starts to interfere with your day to day living. Are you able to go to work? Do you still find happiness with the things/people/activities you always have? do you feel like the world is moving too fast around you? Are you avoiding people and isolating yourself from the world? Has there been a significant life altering event recently that is causing stress (divorce, death of a loved one, job loss, ect)? can you still function in day to day life? Has the symptoms been present every day for at least 2 weeks? All these are symptoms of depression and should be addressed by your family physician. there are a lot of medications that will relieve depression and counseling can also help. Check into it if you need help.

Sorry to hear that. I think that depression comes when we don't get what we want. Not materialistically, but mentally AND physically. If a person is overweight and sees a slim trim person, they can feel inadequate...I think you know why. A person that is feeling depressed (if it is not mentally driven), has to pinpoint the reason. Once that is done, it takes a good friend or even a psycotherapist to unleash the reasons and work on them. In the mean time, dig into your archives of dvd's or vhs and find a great comedy movie that cheers you up and watch it. Comedy is always uplifting.

Go to a funny movie. Get out with people who are fun. If you still can't get over it. Go out with people who are more depressed than you are. It will make realize it ain't all that bad. Eating chocolates helps. Drinking won't help it is a depressant. Or seek some medical or psychological help from the local clinics. Bottom line: you need to talk about it to someone who can be objective. And you need to be with peoples.

For me, it was the realization that life is a series of fluctuations, highs and lows, goods and bads, just like the seasons of nature. Once I realized that depression is NOT permanent, and I could just get through those bad times, eventually things would swing back to the positive again. For me, that was a GREAT relief. In other words, I simply don't take my depressions seriously anymore, and by downplaying it, they last far less time!

I would eat foods high in potassium. That has triggered depression in me. Maybe why many people eat during depression. Exercise releases endorphins that make you feel better.

In my opinion the best thing to do is talk to your doctor. I was depressed once and I went to therapy and was on anti-depressants. I hope everything works out for you.

See your GP - you may be prescribed some anti-depressants or get a referral to a counsellor

Force yourself to get out and do something that you like to do, don't set home and feel sorry for yourself, try to be around friends that are alot of fun.
