than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.

Turn it around, and maybe you will understand.
A quarrelsome, grumpy, grouchy, yelling-at-everybody-all-the-time, impossible-to-please person, makes even filet mignon tasteless. Living with such a person is such a drain on your well-being and emotional health, that you might be better off alone in a wasteland, than in a "decent" house with this person.

man and woman should live in harmony and when a woman is quarrelsome or ill-tempered, they cannot have harmony. God said in Genesis 3:16 that man shall rule over woman, because of the eating of the forbidden fruit deal, a quarrelsome woman is not submitting to her husband and embarrassing to him, so he would feel better off in the desert. i know this is not widely accepted by modern women, but you asked, lol

Well, at the risk of being direct, it is saying that anything is better for a man than having to live with a nagging, augmentative b i t c h who is never in a good mood.
I can see where that might not be readily comprehended by a person of the feminine gender.

Means a man would rather be alone.....than with a cranky bad tempered woman.....there is another proverb that says he would rather be on the roof than with a nagging wife.....Prov 21:9......Solomon should know....he had 2000 wives and concubines :)

Put it this way, I would rather wander the desert lost for several years than to spend 6 months with a man who was always yelling and complaining.

It seems pretty self explanitory to me.
Even living in the hostle environment of a desert is beautiful peace compared to living with a woman who is never satisfied with what she's got, or who argues about everything!

If your wife will not help you reach inner peace and perfection so you may find the Tree of Life and help her to return to the lord... it is better to live in a desert and find it yourself.
