recently bought a home theater, the MX-605T from some pushy salesmen for $300... he says it's worth $2600, but i doubt it... i thought i would ask about the specs to see what the real price range was and to see if i got totally hustled or not:

I hate pushy salespeople. Sometimes they are the deciding factor in me NOT buying the item that I was considering -at least not from them. That being said...

From the looks of the system, it's not worth $2,600 that's for sure (that's like saying the Bose Lifestyle 48 Series III system is worth $3,999). However, if it sounds at least decent, $300 is hardly a rip-off. I'm sure it'll be pretty hard to find a much better system for that price. I hope they fix those typ-os because 250 Hz for the low end of the frequency range is not satisfactory, and which is it, 300-watt powered subwoofer or 3000 watts? I'd say 300 watts at best for the powered subwoofer.

I say you should help others out by doing a short review of your impressions of this system to help others decide if it's worth the money or not. You would be doing a great service to the home theater community. I did that very thing for some SDAT speakers that many have been wondering about...

You cannot tell anything from specs. Even wattages don't mean anything unless qualified by distortion and frequency range specs. A system may have beautiful specs but still sound lousy. Speaker in particular cannot be evaluated from specifications. There is no way to tell whether you got taken. In general, never buy any audio or video equipment without listening or watching it first. However, you have the system; presumably you have hooked it up and it sounds ok to you. In that case, $300 is not too much as long as you are satisfied with what you have. If it doesn't sound good to you, it wasn't worth what you paid, even if you only paid $1

It depends on who made it. ( MX - Magnovox?) But my guess is you probably got a good deal since basic Home Theater in a box systems with 1/2 the power in the center and subwoofer go for about that much. Most HTIB's in that range. As for what you were described to as a $2600.00 unit. If you paid that much, I would be very concerned given the dimensions of your speakers.
A good Klipsch system with a lower end Pioneer 5.1 receiver would run you about $1500-2000. Since most new receivers are 6.1 or 7.1. it would still put the price tag for a great set up around $2000.00 Your main (front) speaker's dimensions are not mentioned but I went with the pair price ( I work @ Best Buy) for the mid cost F-2's and even wth the regular prices of all those units its still under $2200, but given your sattelite speaker and center speaker dimensions, I am guessing more like $1700,at the most, again depending on the manufacturer. If its a HTIB ( all in one system) $300 would be the average for this set up.

Most of the above answers are very good, especiall the 24 / 7. I can only add, that if you like it, you got at best an o.k. deal. If you don't like it, try and sell it
for as much as you can and go through the process again. This time, just
tell us what your budget is, what you want etc. and you'll get plenty of ideas.

The bigger issue here is, why did you buy it before asking your Yahoo friends? Dude, we're here like 24/7. Don't ever ever make a move until you let us help you first!

At least $300 is that much and you got some tunes. Don't sweat whether you were hustled, but if you don't seek our advice first next time....

The price was good for what you bought. Selling for $799 to $999 on the web. Now you have to decide if you like it!

Id love to know the name of the system. Its probably a chinesse knock off. 300 dollars is a cheap lesson to learn.

If you had doubts about his honesty, why did you buy it from him?

What's that saying about if something seems too good to be true?
