The US was founded on principals originating from Christians and based on Christian ideas and philosophy. The US is and has always been a Christian majority country. Those are not opinion but facts. Nation and Christianity is and has always been blended, this is nothing new. Sounds like you need to study some history, it's a great subject. Take a few classes but find really good teachers, you'll love it!
What's wrong with a Chrisitan symbol of the cross? I have no problem with it or a Jewish star or Hindu or Buddist symbols either. I see no reason to have a problem with any religious symbol as long as it represents American values and ideals and does not promote bad morals, is offensive, or promotes violence of any kind.
Instead of focusing your time and attention on a symbol, think of all the people who died and the impact it has had on their families and friends. What if it had happened to someone in your family? I hope it did not and never will. If it had, the cross would likely seem very insignificant and unimportant to you anyway.

I was there, working with a crisis group assisting all the recovery people. That piece of metal with a part of the plane fused on one arm was an object of hope and faith to those wonderful workers who were walking in an area of such horror that you can't possibly imagine. It was important to them, and they are the ones who count. I don't care what you believe or don't believe, and if you show me a picture of something that offends me, I simply look away. To each his own..If you don't like this picture, don't look at it. But don't use that Christians should be crucified crap to try to take it away from those of us who do want to look and to know what happened to the cross that was so important to so many - myself included. And, in case you don't know, it was the recovery workers, not the U.S. government, who found the cross and who poured the concrete in which it is mounted, and who fought city hall (and won) when they tried to have it removed, and if it wasn't the government pushing it, then how can it possibly be a BLENDING of nation and christianity? Get a life.

Maybe you should read this:
Isaiah 30:24-26 (King James Version)
24The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.
25And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
26Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
It matches the 9/11 episode accurately to say the least.

Wow, a segment of metal beams that were constructed to be cross hatcheted to hold up the building looks like a (gasp!) a cross! And I bet you it was rusted and burned to symbolize how sad God was that day....no it wasn't because the building collasped and burned. People read too much into things.

From a secular viewpoint, the cross is a symbol of death, and the flag a symbol of America.
We were a country in mourning. What's your problem?

Although the government has responded to the tragedy, it occcured on private property. The government does not control the displays which are permitted thereon.

The majority of the nation is Christian in one way or another - why would you say it is inappropriate to cope with this tradgedy through our religion?
