Sigh ... why are the vast majority of you respondents who answered so far such COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOTS!?

Questioner, it depends on which weapon you're talking about. It's usually a question of modifying the sear on the weapon, either by replacing it or shaving it down. I recall a worn sear on an M4 at a range one time going on full auto on semi - sent all 6 rounds loaded on the 25m zero range down at once ... "brrrp". Needless to say we took the weapon off the line and sent it back for repairs.

Now there are devices that attach to the trigger which make an AR15 capable of sustained fire, but you'll have to check with your juristiction as I'm unsure whether these are actually legal without BATF paperwork.

Once again, it really depends on what weapon you're talking about; there are open source steps on how to convert a weapon. However, be advised that if you're living in the United States, the BATF takes a dim view of the proceedings and will throw you into Federal prison in less than a heartbeat if they find such a weapon in your possession and you do not have the required paperwork (tax stamps, etc).

Oh and one other thing? If you have to ask, then you shouldn't even try to do it yourself. Take it to a gunsmith. If it's an HK weapon, make sure he's certified as an HK Armorer. Same goes for any other company if applicable.

And remember, do everything you're going to do legally.

I use to work for this guy for couple months, Joseph Wotruba he said he shaved down a sear one time and it turned his rifle into fully automatic. He said he didn't need any special permits because he was an ex-con so it didn't matter. He was a bad guy that's why quit working for that moron.

This is a huge felony! You and the person that guides you through the procedure could go to jail for a long time. Firearms violations of this type are taken almost as seriously as murder.
