the job has to let u leave and return with the same pay and status, i think u get 6-12 weeks depending. U need to save $ and u can also apply for temporary assistance like welfare (for mothers who are not working due to maternity leave.) dep. on where u live i think.

A mother is by law allowed up to 12 weeks maternity leave. No matter where they live or work, as long as you have worked for the company for a year. You do not have to quit. If after talking to your boss, he still denies it to you, you can and should take it to the courts. Woman have sued and won (you WILL win).

Good luck with everything. It really sets me off when someone tries to deny a woman the right to be with her child.

Sorry I dont know. I live in California and we get paid disability 4 weeks prior to having the baby, and 6 weeks afterwards. On top of that we get another 6 weeks of paid family leave time, if you've been at your job more than a year. Are you sure they don't offer disability in your state?

some states let you go on disability for 10 weeks for maternity leave. you get about 80% of your pay. not bad for free money. well, it's not really free if you pay taxes, right? it's just your money coming back to you.

then you'll have to put your child in a day care and get back to work! sucks, don't it? yes it does. this country says it cares about "family values" but so far, i don't see the proof of that.

gotta run, gray's anatomy is almost on.

save money for the next 4 month
get public assistance

many businesses do not have to give maternity leave if they only have so many employees on staff.

well you can go to your local social services office, they usually have some type of temporary cash assitance program as well as food stamp programs things like that. also you may want to check your local unemployment office as you may be eligible for unemployment depends on how long you were working at your job and stuff like that...i dont know where you are but where i live you can still get unemployment benefits whether you were terminated or quit. so i'd check out both.

ask if your company has FMLA, which is famliy medical leave act. It is a federal program and most companies have it. You job will be secure while you are gone. I believe you can take up to 12 weeks.

Hope this helps!

File for Short term disability or FMLA, at least u'll have ur position there for you when you get back. FMLA protects u on that end of the raw deal
