Spend some time 1 on 1 with a pilot, not some jerkoff who says hes a pilot on yahoo...
Flying is the most awesome thing in the world and pilots will talk and talk and talk about anything airplane! Or even better for those really affraid to fly is pay for a pilot to ride with you and they can explain any questions or concerns you have along the way. Some even have psych training to deal with fear of flying issues.
You will feel best if you open the air vents full open and keep cool air on you and if you are looking out the window look at the horizon as it will not move and it will keep you from getting air sick.

Just keep reminding yourself that air travel is one of the safest means of travel available. They've been doing it for a long time now, so I think they know what they are doing. But, some tips. Sit at the back of the 'plane. I've never known one reverse into a hill. If you can find the black box, sit on it. Let's face it, it is the one bit they always get back undamaged. If the plane has an outside loo, change airlines. If the pilot walks passed with a parachute saying he is going for help, go with him. And, if refuelling means loading up with coal, I would suggest you change 'planes. Good Luck. I love flying!!

No body is afraid of flying, they are afraid of crashing! Keep one thing in mind, you will be on one of the safest modes of transportation, bring something that you enjoy, people have recommended music and other things. The only two parts that will scare you is take off and landing. Airline pilots are very well trained and are experts in what they do. Many of them have military backgrounds where you know they were trained to fly by the best. You hear every now and again of something bad happening somewhere in the world that has to do with airline accidents or re-routing, remember that that is one incident in the whole world, you have better odds of being in a car accident on the way to the airport than to be in a mishap in the air. Thats just basic statistics. Take a crossword puzzle to pass the time in the air, if there is turbulence rest assured that the pilot actually knows that its there and he/she is doing their best to give you a smooth flight. They have extensive weather services all over the world that pilots study. And pilots on the same routes report abnormalities in the sky as well. Take your trips with enthusiasm, see it as a fun and exciting way of travel, a way to broaden your horizon! Good luck! I wish you all the best! It is a very safe sky now

don't be scared, flying remains an extremely secure form of transport. 1000's (possibly 1000's) of flights ensue on a daily basis and planes get checked over in many situations to make particular each and every thing is working precise. besides the group are enormously experienced in protection technique, it is basically approximately never needed as a results of how secure planes are. confident, injuries do ensue, yet while in comparison with different injuries (on the line as an occasion) they're basically approximately non-existent, they only attraction to very super exposure because of the fact they're so uncommon and greater tend to die at as quickly as, the seating means of a airplane being approximately two hundred situations better than a vehicle. think of what number flights there have been in view that 9/11- the final significant air tragedy. 1000's of 1000's and greater nonetheless. This airplane replaced into certainly one of all those. Planes are plenty, plenty safer than they have been 30 years in the past and that they are starting to be safer each and every of the time. heavily, do no longer difficulty approximately it, and have a great holiday :) the probabilities of it being a bomb are narrow, pondering the tight protection at airports and the unlikelihood of a Brazilian airport being concentrated. this is attainable, in spite of the undeniable fact that this is plenty plenty greater possibly that it replaced into all the way down to a sequence of electric faults led to by using extreme turbulence, which delivered approximately depressurization of the cabin which meant there replaced into no oxygen grant, or it delivered approximately an explosion. yet this is extremely uncommon. RIP to all of the victims of the Air France tragedy.

Being scared of flying is completely natural. I hate take-offs and severe turbulence, but I find that taking deep breaths and counting up to 100 helps calm me down.
During the flight I try to watch a movie, read a book or just close my eyes and listen to relaxing music on my iPod. Note: these also work great to avoid the seatmate who wants to be your new best friend. I also always have a window seat so I can enjoy the view, as well as see what's going on at all times (it's a control thing).

I love to fly. I sit by the window and look at the ground and clouds the whole time. On a sunny day you can see a circle of a rainbow on the clouds surrounding the plane when you look down at them... If your a Christian just trust God - your whole life is in his hands and if he has taken care of you thus far he will still take care of you in a plane. I have heard the chance of getting in a car accident is like 1 in 5000 and a plane is like 1 in 250,000 - or something like that. It is very unusual for a plane to have problems or crash. Millions of planes take off and land every day and almost never hear of crashes. It is the safest way to travel... I can fly from Michigan to Florida in a little over 2 hours - it's a wonderful thing - when it is a 24 hr drive in a car. Bring magazines to look at or a book of puzzels to occupy your mind while in flight. I usually just look out the window the whole time -even if it's night time. The take off is fun - exciting because you can feel the speed of the plane taking off. Once your in the air it doesn't even feel like you are moving. It's amazing... I have run into turbulance - but it is very normal and a little scary but perfectly normal and happens quite frequently if flying in rain clouds or over mountains. You should be fine - just try to think of all the possitives. It is really safe to fly and just trust God to watch over you- you should be fine.

It's a piece of cake sweetheart. In all reality, the best thing you can do is go take a flying lesson. Virtually everybody resists me when I tell them this but it is truly the easiest way to overcome your fear.
As a USAF instructor pilot, I have had a few students that started JSUPT afraid to fly. They quickly overcame their fear. The reason why people are afraid when they fly is because they don't understand it. Taking a flying lesson is the easiest way to gain an understanding for it.

Have your doctor give you something for anxiety or take a sleeping pill. Flying is actually safer than driving a car. If looking out the window bothers you, shut the shade. But, if you look outside and see how beautiful the clouds are, you should relax.

Don't worry! I flew for the first time last year, and I was petrified. Once we took off, it was sort of surreal. Like being aloft in a greyhound bus with wings. I was scared to look out of the window, but discovered that looking out over top of the clouds was beautiful. You will be okay!
