Jesus does not require Christians to 'say the right words', but he DOES require that they TRY. If a person is not even trying, he cannot call himself a Christian.
A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "change his mind". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

It takes a long time to get to the point where you feel like you will have all the answers to the hard questions. Don't worry about it. You should start by reading some good books, not the fluff they have in most Christian bookstores. Try Believers Payday by Paul Benware. It develops the concept of rewards in the afterlife. Pretty motivating. Also, try Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer. Very good and life changing. Both of these are really sound, and easy to read.

Certainly witnessing with your works (your life) is superior to words. St. Francis of Assissi said, "Preach the Gospel at all times; and when necessary use words." Well, words are necessary. With personal evangelism (one on one) you need to make friends while avoiding any sins they may be involve with. Then, ideally, they will ask you about your life and what you believe. Then lay it on them. Persona evangelism, done right, takes time. Also, it gets easier as you do it. Your inhibitions come under control. You cease to fear rejection.
We are evangeists not because we are good at it and not because we hold some title or office. We are evangelists because we are obedient Christians following our Lord's command. You will likely meet with much failure. That's OK. Learn techniques to be a better evangelist. Talk with leaders in your church and they can tell you about training programs in your area.
It is not your fault if someone accepts Christ or not. It is the Holy Spirit which does this miraculous task. You act out of obedience. One poll showed that the average non-believer is told about Christ about 25 times before theay accept Christ and join a church. So even if you have not seen an immediate resut of your witness, you know that you have gotten them a step closer to someone who will.
As for saying the right words, there are a number of old staged and scripted comments. Most of them have been heard many times, and have lost their effect. A famous example comes from the Campus Crusade for Christ.
God loves you and has a plan for your life.
This was quite successful, but everyone has heard it until it became trite. Just tell people the gospel story. Tell them your testimony of how you became a Christian. Tell them about the many changes that Christ has made in your life. Invite them to church or offert to help them find a church that they would like. See that they become a member and beome active in church.
Just some idle thoughts. Boy, am I wordy tonight. God bless you and your service for His kingdom.

If you are a true Christian and have trusted in what the Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross for you then you should know that your fear does not come from God. 2 Timothy 1: 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. If you would study your Bible and rightly divide it and know what God has for you then you will loose your fear. Know what you are talking about. Consider what the apostle Paul tells you and you can understand all things. 2 Timothy 2: 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Don't be afraid. We are all called to different ministries, singing, being ushers, being teachers etc. We can't all witness with our mouth, What we can do is follow the example of Christ and live our lives in love and forgiviness. Sometimes what you do can speak louder than anything you say.
If it makes you feel any better, Moses had the same problem that's why his brother Aaron often spoke for him. God will always provide a way. You just keep believing and praying and Jesus will reveal you talent to you.
Exodus 4
The LORD Gives Great Power to Moses
1Moses asked the LORD, " Suppose everyone refuses to listen to my message, and no one believes that you really appeared to me?"
2The LORD answered, " What's that in your hand?"
" A walking stick," Moses replied.
3" Throw it down!" the LORD commanded. So Moses threw the stick on the ground. It immediately turned into a snake, and Moses jumped back.
4" Pick it up by the tail!" the LORD told him. And when Moses did this, the snake turned back into a walking stick.
5" Do this," the LORD said, " and the Israelites will believe that you have seen me, the God who was worshiped by their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
6Next, the LORD commanded Moses, " Put your hand inside your shirt." Moses obeyed, and when he took it out, his hand had turned white as snow--like someone with leprosy. [a] 7" Put your hand back inside your shirt," the LORD told him. Moses did so, and when he took it out again, it was as healthy as the rest of his body.
8-9Then the LORD said, " If no one believes either of these miracles, take some water from the Nile River and pour it on the ground. The water will immediately turn into blood."
10Moses replied, " I have never been a good speaker. I wasn't one before you spoke to me, and I'm not one now. I am slow at speaking, and I can never think of what to say."
11But the LORD answered, " Who makes people able to speak or makes them deaf or unable to speak? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Don't you know that I am the one who does these things? 12Now go! When you speak, I will be with you and give you the words to say."
13Moses begged, " LORD, please send someone else to do it."
14The LORD became irritated with Moses and said:
What about your brother Aaron, the Levite? I know he is a good speaker. He is already on his way here to visit you, and he will be happy to see you again. 15-16Aaron will speak to the people for you, and you will be like me, telling Aaron what to say. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will tell each of you what to do. 17Now take this walking stick and use it to perform miracles.

You would be a perfect witness. Moses had a similar problem, even worse , a speech impediment. God told Moses , he would speak for him.Moses rejected Gods offer and asked that his brother speak in his stead.
I did most of my witnessing when I was least prepared, when I had least knowledge. Those were my most successful years.
any had come into a knowledge of the Christ through me, even though I knew little.
Remember witnessing is not a debate of minds but one of souls. If the person you are witnessing to is a chosen one and you have planted a seed , it will take root.
If you pray to be used , you will be used. and at the same time , study to show yourself approved of God, being not ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
May the Lord richly bless you.

Your excepted just the way you are. God doesn't expect perfection from anyone. If your heart is sincere and honest with the Lord you have nothing to fear. Read about what authority you have in Jesus Christ. Be encouraged to know that your already seated in heavenly realms ready to reign with Christ! Remember what Jesus said, ""I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

Why bother with a bunch of lip service that will just p*ss people off?
If you really want to please God, do good deeds. Go volunteer for the local soup kitchen. Give what you can to charity. Help an old lady across the street. Buy a homeless person a good meal.
It is these types of things that make your life worthwhile, and show gratitude for life.

I like your question. You can be a witness without knocking on doors!! Its not easy but the best way to witness is to be "Christ like " in everything you do. And if you aren't its okay because we are sinners your not going to avoid it. But I think if you go through your life living how Christ would and making the choices he would you will find yourself in situations where someone will ask "why did you do that you didn't have to..." your answer can be that your a Christian. I have found myself in these types of situations and I know that God gives me the right words to say.
Good Luck,
Steph
