I'm going from the west coast to the east cost and I have only 1 stop, to get to my destination. My question is, I'm flying NWA for 1/2 of the flight, then on AA 1/2 of the flight... so at my layover, will I have to get my baggage and recheck it, since it's a different airline? Or will they just transfer it for me? I'm asking because I have a very short layover and I'm afraid that if I have to get my luggage and recheck (especially at LAX) then I won't have any time to catch my flight. Thanks, in advance :o)

some asirlines will transfer for you no problem others wont on a short layover its a gamble that they will lose your luggage if you can take it with you do it if you can pick it up and recheck do it if time is short like you say repack some of your stuff so if it does get lost the other piece will have it or take some essentails on the plane with you ,

Not necessarly...there are airlines that have agreement for what concerns accepting documents issued by other airlines, and also agreements regarding transfering the luggages from one carrier to another one. You should inform yourself with the first airline you take, when checking in, if they have this agreement with AA for what concerns transfering your luggages, without picking them up at the transfer point. Specially if you don't have time. I'm sure that both being american companies, they do this all the time, so don't worry, you just have to specify at the check-in time what your final destination is and that you want your luggage checked till there.

Yes, you will have to pick up your luggage, recheck it and go thur security again. Tell the flight attendant on NWA that you need to get off the plane first - that you have to get your luggage and get to the next gate - they will do their best to get you off the plane before anyone else or sooner that most. Passengers are also very good about this - most have been in the same position at some point in their travels. Also tell the person at at luggage check in and the person at security that your plane will leave soon and they may put you ahead of any line. Wear your running shoes and good luck. :)

Most likely, NWA will be able to check your bag all the way to your final destination. When you check in, make sure that you let the agent know you have a connecting flight on another airline. Most airlines have interline agreements with other carriers.

There are several airlines that have what is called a ticketing agreement and depending on the airlines and your specfic ticket will determine on if your bags will go right through. This I can't answer for you, because I didn't book your ticket.

If you booked online you will have to call the airline I suppose. If booked through an agent call them. I'm guessing if you are asking here though it was probably done online.

If you have to pick up your luggage at your layover, yes. If not, no.
