Good luck. I've been asking the same questions for more years than I care to count, and nobody ever has given me a real answer. I get vague assurances about "promises" -- none of which make any sense, regardless of how many bible verses are used. But maybe you'll fare better. (And watch your wallet.)

First of all, God is not just another 'guy'. He is more than that! It takes more than just asking for forgiveness. It takes faith or belief too. You must have complete faith in Him. I know that right now it seems you are uncertain about that because you don't really know the first thing about Him. I get the idea that you don't like the Bible, and could it be that someone has tried to push it down your throat sometime in the past? Forgive them if you can. They meant well... just wanted the best for your but did not know how to deliver it with love and gentleness. But since you really have not read it...(you haven't, have you) I suggest you take a few minutes and read St John... the gospel. Pay attention to how much Jesus loves you. You don;t have to worship Him... you get to... its a privildge....and a joy...once you have discovered his love and forgiveness. He is really real you know... He does not want anyone to go to hell. Hell was never designed for man...but for Satan and his fallen angels. Man will end up there by his rejection of Jesus love and forgiveness. Its not your good works...curing aids or cancer... that earns you heavens rewards. Its not what you do at all, but what Jesus did that matters. What did He do? He came to die for you... for your sin, so you would not have to suffer for sin. Yes, he can forgive a rapist, and a liar, and an athiest, and any man, woman, boy or girl no matter what they have done, as long as their sincerely believe with all of their heart and are truly repentant for their sins. Repentance does not mean just being sorry for your sin....it means being so sorry that you willfully turn away from doing it and change your direction.
Most people who call themselves athiests or agnostics just don't like the god that someone presented to them earlier in their lives. They had a really bad example set before them. But choosing to make a god of your own, that has rules that make you happy, does not make him a real god.
God has standards... people make mistakes... and need forgiveness... Do you have a better way to get this need for forgiveness met? Have you found any other God who will love you unconditionally? Who will forgive all your sin? I have! and you can too... Read the Book!

Yes,if you accept Jesus as your Savior, ask forgiveness for your sins, and live a righteous life to the best of your ability, you are promised a place in Heaven. He will not force you in any way to believe in Him.He leaves the choice up to you, therefore it is not God who sends an unbeliever to hell. They made the choice where they will spend eternity entirely on their own.
You may be able to cure cancer and AIDS,but so can God.Your medical abilities don't make you better than God or anyone else.In God's eyes ,we are all equal. If you were to sincerely repent of your sins to God,He would forgive you. So why shouldn't the murderer and rapist have that same chance at redemption?God loves Him as he loves you and all mankind. He doesn't play favorites. We,as mortal human beings, have a hard time forgiving a rapist or murderer, but if he turns to God with a true, repentent heart,God will forgive him, because He is a God of love and mercy.
Atheists have trouble understanding what God is all about simply because they deny His existence, because there is no scientific proof that He really exists or any real proof at all. They would have all the proof they would need if they would just simply reach out to God and open themselves to the possibility. Those who do believe didn't just blindly follow in the footsteps of parents or anone else or any kind of religious influence. They have seen and felt the power of God in their lives, and that is all the proof they needed.Until you actually open yourself to the possibility of God's existence, you cannot know and understand why God has so many faithful followers.

Because He's your Father and He said so. Why choose insolence? I could continue this way but you wouldn't listen to this type of 'stuff ', would you? So instead I'll answer you another way, both logically strong and valid by explaining the ISSUE itself and not some bible propaganda...fair enough?...
To be fair, I need to ask you a question or two. I need to address the ISSUE itself and if I don't know where you stand on your beliefs, then how can I possibly answer logically? Right?
I need to know who do you think created EVERYTHING from people to stars to atoms to plants to birds to your parents and siblings. We're not in the right forum for me to HEAR your answer, so I'll have to listen to your question and see if that says anything about you and your beliefs... .... ..... .....
OK I'm done. I think it's likely that you don't believe in God. But that doesn't kill the conversation, no, it only makes it more interesting.
Once again, Who created EVERYTHING?
OK And do you know EVERYTHING?
Take your time. ..................As much as you need........................
Well I'm gonna guess that you're 'wise' enough to know that you DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING............RIGHT?
Then the answer could be ANYTHING..........Right?
I mean, if we don't know EVERYTHING, then the answer to something could be ANYTHING for all we know.
So what gives you the right or authority to DEMAND that you know EVERYTHING???
He could have any reason in the world, any reason He wanted.
But I think we know the answer already, at least the most important part.
Because there are things that our parents told us for our own good, even though we didn't understand why. We may have even thought our parents stupid. ......Is it sinking in yet?
Cmon. You're not a stupid person. You have the capabilities to understand. Why not just think about it?? See if you can understand that you don't understand. And like your parents did for you out of LOVE- even though you didn't understand....So too HE, JESUS has done for you as well. PEACE BE WITH YOU

People still see the universe as revolving around their lives. They see the spirit, or soul, as a part of the person, and they try to regulate it as such. But that is not the true nature of life.
In reality, we are primarily spiritual beings with our physical presence in life as a little part of the whole. Improving and lengthening someone's physical life is inconsequential to the grand scheme of things.
While it is important to care for ourselves and for our neighbors, such concerns are only a small part of reality. Curing cancer and AIDS would be wonderful, but physical life is still finite. Those people will still die, probably in significant discomfort, even if only from old age. Physical life will end, but your spirit will not.
Therefore, how can anything we do or accomplish here on earth have a major impact on eternity?
Don't take this as a discouragement. We are alive here and now, so we must continue to behave in a manner appropriate to our circumstances. Just don't be lulled into the false belief that this is everything.
We really are little more than algae on the vast sea of reality. But even algae has a job to do.

There is eternity for everyone. It is a matter of where you chose to spend it. There are only two choices. With God (Heaven) or Not with God (Hell). There is no in between or no other place to choose from.
There had to be a shedding of blood for an atonement for our sins and it had to be spotless blood and Jesus was the only one that could have shed spotless blood
In order to enter the presence of God (Heaven) you must be spiritually clean and pure and sin free. It is not possible for a human to be any of those things. In your blood is where you have life. Jesus' blood, since he did not sin and was pure, gives life and his wounds shed the blood of life for us.
Jesus gave his life freely for us. In turn he gives us the GIFT or eternal life through him. That is why you can not good deed your way into Heaven, for it is not a work, it is a gift. A murderer who is truly sorry for the sin he commits and asks for forgiveness from Christ will be forgiven. Keep in mind, it has to be real, God know the heart. If you ask and do not truly mean it, he knows. So yes, it is that easy, ask and believe and you will receive. But you can't trick God either. The worst sin is not believing. Anyone can receive the gift if they truly ask for it in faith. Remember again, salvation is a gift not something you get through works or deeds.

Okay... I really dont know how to answer this... But it has been revealed to me that people have a misconception about the Jesus.... Jesus is the sacrificial lamb! He came so that we could have possession of the holy spirit and have an easier way into salvation... This is the thing....If you dont except Jesus then you dont have possession of the Holy Spirit...which means that you are more likely to do bad things and never be convicted thus you continue like this and live a life with no repercussions...Because of this when we come to Judgment you will be Judged on ALL of your DEEDS!!!! God will go through everything and then determine what your fate shall be.... However, it is believed that is you except Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit dwells in you... this causes you to repent for your sins when you do something wrong and its not regretted because you will have salvation. God says that when you are cleanse of sins.. he forgets them...So if you repent as soon as you sin what can God Judge? But that conscience comes with the Holy Spirit.... Now I know there is much more to be explained....and I dont think that would help any more....But if you except Jesus then you will have repentance which leads to salvation not to be regretted according to our brother Paul.

OK, I'll give you a "logical" answer-more like a "logical" question. Say even if you did find a cure for AIDS, and one day committed a crime, wouldn't your government still hold you accountable for that crime? Say if you committed Grand Theft Auto, it is most likely that your judicial system would find you guilty and sentence you to serve time in jail. Compare jail to Hell if you will. Do you see where I'm going with this? Jesus' selfless act of dying on the cross for ALL of ours sins is like bail. It will "save" you from spending time in prison. All you have to do basically is call him up and ask for his free gift of salvation and he'll grant it to you. No price is too great for Him, He paid the price, but if you don't ASK Jesus Christ to bail you out, then you'll be stuck in jail and end up going where all deserve to go- because Roman's 3:23 says "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." The Bible also says that "the wages of SIN- (which can be as simple as a lie)- is DEATH, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." That verse can be found in the Book of Romans Chapter 6 verse 23. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. If you don't accept Jesus' "bail" then God will judge you of your sins and will sentence you to eternal death in Hell because God is Just. He wishes that none may perish but that all might have eternal life.

Look at it this way: God is the equivalent to the law. He tells you how, like the law, and if you decide not to do it His way then you will except the consequences you have chosen. Just like you will except the consequences when breaking the law. Obedience is very important to God and you must believe by faith. He teaches us through the Bible. Look around you, How can a beautiful, perfect planet exist without a superior being that loves you and wants to please you. He gives you a will to be obedient. If you really want proof of God's plan, look into prophecy of the Bible. How can thousands of years ago somebody know that Israel would become a nation again.
(1948) There are other prophecies that have come true. Look them up.

For starters, you are asking the wrong people. We Christians are depending our souls on the foolishness of the cross of Jesus Christ who died in our place, and we are depending on an infallible word for word testimony.
To put it simply for you, I give you John 3:36:
He that believeth on the Son hath everlatsing life: and the that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
The Bible position is that man is born sinful. Every one of us dies because we are natural born sinners. Against God's judgment there is no difference in sin: a mass serial killer is no different than a sodomite, or a sorcerer, or a petty thief, or the average liar. Everyone is under the wrath of God.
When a person gets saved that wrath is permanently removed, forever. It makes no difference what he has done.
And a person who is not born again cannot possibly escape hell fire on his own merits, no matter how much good he does. All of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

i think that there is a disconnect here. being good or bad doesn't have any bearing on salvation. i understand what you are saying, but it's two different things. yeah it sucks that someone like ted bundy could do all the things that he did, yet say he was saved at the last minute.
but someone like gandhi, who was peaceful and loving won't be saved.. i don't know. i do know that both were given the same choice. and they made their decisions. i don't know what comes of it. i do think that when we all get to where we are going(heaven or hell) i think we may truly be surprised at who is there and who isn't. i don't think we can truly judge peoples hearts and i certainly don't know god's mind. i trust that in these things he will be fair. it's like people who never heard of jesus... i don't know what god will do with them. i can't believe that he will jsust cast them awayi don't know
. but there are a lot of whys i can't answer. i guess that's where faith comes in. there isn't always an explanation for everythng. and not everything is fair.
all i can say is that you have to decide what to do with jesus. accept or reject. if the
