Read the following scriptures regarding speaking in tongues. Acts 2:1-4; 10:46; 19:1-6; Romans 8:15; and Gal. 4:6.
This was a special gift God gave first to the disciples and those who gathered in the upper room on the day of Pentecost following the ascension. It's purpose was to give believes the ability to love each other and the lost in a supernatural way, and the boldness to witness to them of what Christ had down. He would also help them to remember all that Christ had told them. I have experrience this, and it is fantastic. I recieved it some 30 years ago, and it was life transforming. It made Jesus so real to me and caused the Word of God to come alive in my heart as never before.

It says that the gift of speaking in tongues was poured out on about 120 desciples assembled in an upper room at Pentecost 33 CE; that it enabled the desciples to speak in the tongues of the Jews and proselytes who had come to Jerusalem from far away to observe the passover festival; that it was a fulfillment of the prophecy in Joel proving that God was no longer with the Jewish congregation, but instead with the Christians. It was also a sign to non-believers. (Acts 1:13-15; 23:1-47). There were specific directions given in writing to the Christian congregation at Corinth from Paul on speaking in tongues (1 Cor. 14:22-23). That if no one was present who could translate what was being said, it was meaningless (1 Cor. 14:2,4). And, that the gift of tongues would cease. (1 Cor. 13:8-10).

Speaking in tongues is regarded to be a reward of the Holy Spirit, nonetheless we Catholics feel that sensible gibberish is not going to suffice, it's honestly the reward of realizing a overseas language. In the phase you pointed out you're going to discover that the humans all of distinctive backgrounds have been competent to talk and converse with Peter in spite of no longer coming there having all spoken the equal language. As an instance, if my English talking self awoke day after today talking Aramaic, old Greek, or any other language that I have had no revel in with, I then could had been given the reward. Peace in Christ

It says if their is one speaking in tongues and one who can interpret then it is of God and comes from being filled to overflowing with the holy spirit. Anything else is considered blasphemy.

1 Corinthians 13:8
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, the shall fail; whether there be TONGUES, they SHALL VANISH AWAY.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is PERFECT is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
( the perfect is Jesus Christ )
