I know a bishop that is openly homosexual (I think he is the only one) and I THINK he was open before he became a bishop. I was told that homosexual people aren't allowed to become bishops. Any thoughts on how this wonderful event occured? Also, even if he became open after he became bishop, wouldn't he be..de-bishopnized? (FYI he is awsome, so maybe that is the answer)

Only serious answers please, no gay-bashing crap.

Thanks Yo Yo Mama, that is exactly who I was talking about.

To the rest: please don't give any Bible quotes as it does not adress the issue and I know all the anti-homosexual parts of the Bible. The Bible never says (outright) homosexuality is a sin and it is open for interpretation (not only that, but many things that are "unclean" or "abominations" in the Bible are accepted now [like eating pork]).

My question referred to the laws of the curches and leaders that decide what can and cannot be done.

You talking about Episcopal Church Bishop Gene V. Robinson? Like all Bishops (Overseers), he was chosen by the congregations he shepards. He was openly gay before his election. His election was not accepted by many just as consecration of women bishops has been rejected by many. Most are predicting schism in the Episcopal churches will continue to spread. I in fact belonged to an Anglican Catholic Church for a while, which is one of the conservative congregations that broke with the US Episcopal communion over the Book of Common Prayer, Bishop Gene and other liberalizations. I just preferred the old liturgy and a small congregation. If the Bishopric of New Hampshire wants Gene Robinson for Bishop, that's their business under the polity of their church. The other Bishops could have rejected him and didn't.

I am serious with you and I am not bashing gays as you say......but in the eyes of God I don't think this can be good....now some denominations of churches have changed their way of thinking on the Word of God and allowed things that the Bible clearly says is wrong....now just because man justifies this ...in no way means God does.....God says it is wrong and it always will be......because you said he was openly homosexual....and to me that means he is still involved in this lifestyle.....so to be involved would be still living in open sin against God and that is wrong.....doesn't matter how well he teaches or how articulate he may be.....but the anointing will not be upon his words as long as he is living against the teachings of God....we can not allow compromise to come into our places of worship or our lives ...and if the place you attend is compromising what the Word of God teaches then you should leave and find a place that keeps in line with the true teachings of God.......God Bless

I just dont get it. I dont think its gay bashing to say that Biblical Christianity does not support homosexuality. In fact it uses some of the strongest language to describe homosexuality as an abomination before God. How can you go out and preach God's word while openly living in opposition to it. Who will even take you seriously

Well since you just cited an example of a gay bishop, I guess the answer is yes.

I don't know about all denominations but I think some are open to openly gay leaders.

Also love the folks who start with "I'm not gay-bashing, but..."

Depends on the denomination. Episcopals allow this. There is another denomination that allows it as well, I can't think of what it is.
