I just got a tattoo about a week ago and it itches really bad! Is this just part of the healing process?

It itches because it's healing, the best thing to do is put an unscented lotion on it NOT vasiliene,<~~that will cause it to scar and not heal properly...it should stop itching within 2-3 more days...hope it heals soon....

It is part of the healing process. When mine started flaking a little, it itched really bad. I use "A+D" cream (thin layer because you want your skin to breathe), that is what my tattooist told me to use. It heals everything up real nicely and it feels good when you put it on. Don't pick at it, and don't scratch off the flakes. Let them fall off naturally. If the itching is really bothering you, lightly smack it. It will stop itching in a few days.

You may have a slight allergy to something in the ink used. All of mine are about 25-30 years old & I've never had a problem with them other than plain old dry skin. Is there any redness around the area or swelling?

Normally its just healing. Try putting a lotion of some kind on it. I've used lubriderm in the past. If it hasn't gotten better by week 2 you might want to have a doctor look at.

yes its part of the healing process.but dont itch it..you can pullthe ink out w/any scab that may be there.if you must ...just slap it gently but quickly.not too often cause it will start to swell possibly.i've got several,and this is what i did under my artist recommendations.it does help ease the itchy feeling.

YEAH! Itching is part of the proccess! Just keep rubbing it with Lubriderm....gently!
Don't rub too hard! You don't wanna rub off the scabs! Let the scabs fall off by themselves!
If the tattoo shop didn't tell you about this then don't go there again! Get your next ink at a place that is willing to talk to you about EVERYTHING before you even THINK about getting your next piece!

Don't put anything on it that contains high amounts of oils, it tends to draw out in, as to bandages.. But yes, when it's itchy, it means it's healing :)
