I do keep in contact with her Dr. and we have made med. changes, but seems the meds aren't correcting the problem they're designed for, which I think my kid has ADD, not OCD. When do I "fire" her Doctor? Give him a chance?

You don't say how old the child is. I, too ran the gambit for an accurate diagnosis.

Have you had her evaluated by a psychologist?

Definitely get a second opinion, and a third....until you hear them give a diagnosis that turns the light bulb on.

My second daughter is high functioning autistic, my son is outgrowing ADHD. I only needed one doctor to see my son, give a diagnosis, and it rang true. My daughter on the other hand, it took a lot more searching. But when he said, "Autistic", I realized, yes, that was what we had been living with......

Research nutritional support for her. See if certain foods trigger behaviors. Most physcial ailments are caused by certain inbalances. Ask her doctor if a multi-vitamin might be appropriate.

My son asked to stop taking Ritlin. I told him as long as he could control his behaviors. (Anyway, he tried.....) Go with your insticts when it comes to meds. She's still little, I assume.

Good luck and God bless you.

A second opinion is always a good idea. You don't have to "fire" her doctor to get one. Call your insurance company and explain. Perhaps you'll find a more like-minded physician.

Or perhaps lifestyle changes (likely for the whole family, this is why westerners generally prefer medication) would suit everyone better. While you're getting a second medical opinion, perhaps you'd like to consult some alternative practitioners also. Things like nutrition, holistic medicine, ayurveda, chiropractic, shamanic healing, they can all have tremendous impact. Most try to work in concert with western medicine. You are in charge, take the reigns. Listen carefully to ALL the experts, make your own decisions.

I am older by far than your daughter. And I suffer from anxiety disorders. And I have taken myself off the drugs prescribed . PAXIL is not a good thing.
