It depends on your interests. I worked in a surgical practice for 30 years doing all of it. Medical billing is paperwork and frustration, but pays well. medical assisting is working with people, helping, talking, touching and making them feel better. Are you a people person, then that is the best... if you aren't and want to work just on paperwork, then do the medical billing.

If you are more interested in direct patient care, go into medical assisting. If you don't want to deal with them in person, and only want to harrass them over the phone, go into medical billing.

Medical assisting is much better as you can contract yourself out to several medical providers...
