I quit 13 years ago after smoking for for over 20 years 2 packs a day...

Nicoderm CQ...21mg/day for 4 weeks, 14mg/day for 4 weeks, and 7mg/day for 2 weeks.

The habit part was pretty easy for me because I always found smoking inconvenient because I was using my hands for other things all of the time and I had to stop my activities to smoke. The patches take care of all of the withdrawals from nicotine.

Sometimes there was a little confusion in the beginning about what to do next because there were some things that I always smoked before I did them. For example, I always smoked a cigarette before I took a shower and every time I took a shower for a week or so I always felt like I was forgetting something.

Best advice I can give you is toss the cigarettes, stay away from smokers as much as possible until you're finished quitting, and keep your hands busy. Good luck...but if you really want to quit you won't need it.

I finally stopped. It took many half-hearted attempts first. Then one night I crashed at a friends place after being out drinking and smoking for hours. When I changed back into my clothes the next morning, I totally grossed myself out! I couldn't stand the smell of my clothes and couldn't believe I was walking around smelling like that. I have been smoke free for 3 years now and the smell of cigarettes still makes me nauseous. But if I see it on tv or from far enough away, I still get little cravings.

Yes I did quit almost three years now after smoking for over 5, damn near a pack a day. I quit in a very unusual method, but a very successful. I read a book: 'Allen Carrs Easy Way To Stop Smoking' it worked great for me, and many others who I have reccomended the book to has also worked for them. If you want to quit, or even if you don't want to. Read the book and you could become a non-smoker;)

I have known a few people that quit, including my mom. They did it by the "cold turkey" method. In my mind that sounds harsh but I guess for some reason it works.
You might want to look into natural remedies to control the cravings. I know that cinnamon has really helped me with my sugar cravings so I would think that there must be something out there that works for the cigarette craving.
Congratulations on deciding to quit. I'll be praying that you are able to.

I did. Smoked for 50 yrs. tried everything, gum, patches, counseling, even hypnotism, nothing worked. On June 27,05 I decided fu*k it, I'm gonna quit or die. I'll still die, but I haven't had a fuc*ing cigarette since then.
