My insurance company says they cover my rental up to $1000 some-odd dollars at $35 a day. Because I chose a repair shop listed with their "Circle of Excellence", my insurance company says if the repairs aren't done by then, the shop pays for the rest for the duration of the repair time. However, I spoke with the guy who's keeping me updated on repair status and he said the shop probably won't pay for the difference because they have no control over how long this is taking. For the record, they've had it since Aug. 24th. Now I'm worried that I'm gonna get slapped with a MAJOR rental bill. What the *%^%$*&^ is going on??? What do I do?

Also, I wasn't at fault. The other guy's insurance is covering all the repairs.

ALSO, I wouldn't say I'm a pushover. The claim is still pending. I was not found at fault, but that doesn't mean his insurance covers it right away. My policy covers it first, THEN once the claim investigation is complete, my company persues HIS company for reimbursement.

Your vehicle is at one of your insurance companies direct repair shops and sounds like they have a contract with the company to provide rental if repairs go beyond a specified date. Call your claims adjuster and ask him/her if what the shop said was true. I doubt they will let you go without a rental even if the shop (if they are crazy enough) decides they will not cover rental. You policy has NOTHING to do with the agreement the insurance company signed with the repair shop so if they are a company with character you will be fine. (but please call them anyway so THEY will know!)

Check your policy. If they said the limit is $1000, then that's all they'll pay. It shouldn't take a month to get a car fixed.

my advice is if your insurance company says it will pay that amount and the repair shop is responsible for the rest then get it in writing...if they won't give it to you in writing then sorry you are in deep doodoo
