Atheists claim to use logic to defend their belief, right? Let's examine the Golden Section my unbelieving friends. That's right, I want to hear how you explain away PHI. The pervaisive appearance of PHI through out life and the Universe is believed by some to be the signiture of God, a universal constant of design used to assure the beauty and Unity of His Creation. What do Atheists believe about the Divine Proportion? For those of you who have never heard of the Golden Number here is a link that will clue you in.

Ok, let's take a look at what you're saying. You've brought up a number that appears in lots of contexts. Interesting? Yes. Perplexing? Definitely. Is it consistent with having an intelligent creator? Yes. Does it necessitate the existence of an intelligent creator? No. If you want to argue under the name of logic, you have to play by the rules. No matter how natural the step between phi and God seems to you, you've still made a jump in your reasoning.

I think this is comparable to a situation my girlfriend is dealing with. She's TAing a class on math for computer science, which involves a lot of proofs. The students are forced to prove a lot of things which seem fairly natural or even trivial to them. However, because of this they often make jumps in their reasoning. Their arguments are still somewhat convincing but don't meet the standards of logic. Also, since the reader believes that the outcome is true, it's easy for them to miss the holes the their logic.

Nature on it's own without support balances. Now the problem you might say is that this is divinely lead but I say that if left to itself that nature without guidance will balance life. As far as a divine nature, don't you think that it is possible that man discovered that nature constitutes a constant in evolutionary processes and because they couldn't explain it any other way, they figure that it must be mystical and intelligently lead for that fact alone. Just because there is a number with an endless fraction behind it, does not mean that it is divine. I don't have to come up with why it is, just that it is. And why if that is such a proof of divine intelligence isn't it written in your texts? One would think that this would be a big, "in the bible and proven" arguing point. Not!!

i am Pagan, i have never heard of this PHI,,,i have studied many different religions and mystic systems..so what is PHI?

sounds like something that you made up in the last few years to give you a reason to argue with people over.

you are going to have to explain what this PHI is, i do not trust links, too many viruses out there

The existence of numbers or manipulations of numbers doesn't prove anything about the existence of God. It only shows that humanity has the capability to think abstractly. Well, at least some people can think abstractly. I have my doubts about fundamentalists.

The truth is that there has never been a proof of the existence of God that is reasonable.

If you cannot prove God exists, everything else in religious belief is nonsense.

LOL! You funny....

If you honestly believe that everyone on earth or even 1 out of 100 people have a 1.618 ratio (that's to the thousandth!!!) between their hand and their arm or their index finger or any other part of their body, you are a moron. You'd have to measure your arm to the thousandth of a foot! That's 12 thousandths of an inch. Please!

Do you think about this crap before you post it?

Ok, how does a number prove god?

Atheism is not about proof of the non-existence of god, but of the lack of proof for god.

Btw, I don't know why the golden ratio is found throughout nature.

And that is my answer: I don't know.

You forgot about PI ! PI appears throughout the universe and is believed to be the signature of... of... oh yeah, of Darwin!

I am happy for your belief. I hope it makes you sleep better at night. Don't expect me to pay more taxes for it, though.
