your going to wreck your first car so dont buy a cool sports car...you will just wreck it that much worses
but if you have to get an RX-7 turbo, any of those years will do

Mazda RX7 turbo, 3rd generation
Toyota Supra turbo, MK IV
Nissan twin turbo 300ZX
Those were the best japanese sports car during that time, but it might still be hard to find them now at a cheap price. The last time I checked, the 300ZX was running for roughly $12k, the RX7 was running anywhere between $12k - $15K, and the Supra turbo was roughly around $18k - $25k.

I would say that a decent one would be a Honda Prelude from that era. I can't really think of anything else.
