I used to sell cars, so I know how the game works. Do some research, find out what others are selling for, and then you will know what it is worth.
The best money that you will get is to sell it yourself. At the dealership where I worked, they tried to low ball EVERYONE that walked in. Once you are armed with the facts, state what you want and don't budge. If they don;t want to play ball, then LEAVE. Don't let them have your keys, as they will try to hide them to get you to stay. Don't buy anything without sleeping on it.
Here is a free website with all the info that you will need. Spend an hour or so reading and learning the scams. It could save you $1000's.

Blue Book is just a book. Really. It has no bearing whatsoever on what your car is really worth, to a BUYER. The dealer is offering you what HE thinks he can give for your car, and still make a profit when HE sells it. That's how the business works...Blue Book means about as much to a dealer as the phone book. It doesn't matter how "hard nosed' you get...the dealer knows what his bottom line is, and he isn't going to lose money.
If this dealer is offering you $24k, and the book value is $29k (Also, remember that Blue Book is RETAIL, as in, what you'd pay to BUY the car retail, NOT what you get to trade it in)...take it. If you want to be rid of the car that bad, $5k isn't that much of a difference between trade in and retail.

they give the wholesale value. if you are hard nosed about it they will give more but what will you lose by taking that 5k loss. if its not worth it wait and trade later. december is coming up and car sales get real slow this time of year so you may be able to get a better deal

yeah as the person said above they will always lowball you when you are trading in. plus the blue book value doesn't know all the little things that could be wrong with your car. blue book said my toyota celica 2002 was worth 10k, but i ended up only selling it for 7800.

Try selling it yourself on craigslist. Or just walk away from the deal and find another dealer willing to give you a better price.
